Getting through Hydrocodone Addiction

Not Chiefs related but I’m going through hell. I was literally prescribed this crap for 10 years and then I moved out of state. I knew moving no other family doctor would prescribe them to me unless my back was jelly. I think I’m doing pretty good considering that it’s been about eight days with nothing after 10 years and having it every day. Anyone else gone through this?

Hey you dumb ****, in Florida one drug manufacturer shipped 25 pills for every citizen in the state. It is all about the cash, that is why billions in fines have been levied and doctors are in prison.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/jailed-...es-2019-08-25/

DEA records show in 2010 one patient of Dr. Schultz was prescribed nearly 17,000 of the highest potency oxycodone pills in a seven-month period; another got more than 23,000 over eight months. That's more than 100 pills a day. Business was so good, Schultz was making more than $6,000 a day prescribing and selling opioids to his patients.

Physicians definitely have been part of the issue, as the majority of people who become addicted start with a legitimate prescription.

We now know that an initial supply greater than 5 days is a strong predictor for being on the medication long term

Kickbacks may be illegal but doctors can still receive payments for fees for speaking, consulting, travel and meals which create the idea of value for the product.

I'm not unaware of this, and can understand the ethical grey area here. I will say the generally the providers participating in this are subspecialists, and the medications being discussed are not opiates.

This is a poor time for pharmaceuticals to push opiates, unless they have new technologies to dissuade diversion and misuse

I will say that the average physician is getting much more than a few random lunches. You can actually look online to see how much compensation a physician has received from pharmaceuticals. Most of the money you see will be the monetary value of lunches.

I'm currently suffering through Throat Cancer - the worst seems to be over, but the Doctors are continually prescribing Hydrocodone and have been for the last 3-4 months. Honestly, I doubt that I would have made it through the pain without it, but now that the "worst" seems to be behind me (with the exception that swallowing food is still a nightmare ) and I plan on getting off of it very, very soon.

Honestly, I can't imaging being on it for 10 years so I wish you god speed in getting rid of that crap.

I'd advise not going cold turkey, though kudos to the OP for doing so. I've been tapering 5mg a week for the last ~2 months. The original plan was 5mg every two weeks but I've been pushing myself as hard as I can. My goal was to be off by 1/1/20 but, at this rate, I'll be off of them in 7 weeks instead.

Good luck getting off of them, good luck recovering from the surgery, and good luck with remission

Yeah I've gone through it a couple times after surgery/injuries. Only time it bothered me was when I would try to go to sleep. I would have full on shakes and it was ****in awful. I used benadryl with a few beers for a couple nights and I'd be good. I know a few people that have had hardcore withdrawals and caffeine seemed to help them. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones that didn't get addicted to the shit. Alcohol same deal...perfectly fine with or without it. I've chewed since I was 15 and that's been a bitch to quit. Good luck man!

For real though try Kratom. I went through Opiate withdrawal and the stuff is a God send. It's easily obtained and fairly cheap as well. If you want you can buy a small number to try it out. Get the capsules though cuz that shit is nasty.

I've had off and on back issues for years and the last time I had it really bad, I went to a minute clinic to see what I could do.

They pushed me hard on painkillers and ended up getting a prescription for oxy's. Didn't take many of them, nor for a long period of time but still holy **** when I stopped them the withdraw was ****ing awful. It was like having menopause while being fed drinks and 'vitamins' from Bill Cosby.

I ended up taking some NyQuil which knocked me out and fortunately whatever I felt was gone when I woke up the next morning. It certainly gave me a lot more understanding on what someone that's truly addicted to them goes through and I would not wish that shit on anybody.

I was given Dilaudid after my surgeries and, despite already being on opiates, had a lovely time going through withdrawal after my 10 day scripts ran out. That's some nasty shit right there. As you stated, I wouldn't wish that on anyone ( except maybe Pats fans )
