A point I made for new users in another thread is that the power of reddit isn't in just going there once in a while and looking at the front page, but of creating an account and customizing the list of subreddits you're subscribed to. Frankly, I think a lot of the defaults are 99% fluff and circle jerks, so I usually recommend getting rid of these unless you're into lots of image macros.

I enjoy it, but you really do have to put some effort into it to get rid of the crap. It also has a bit too much of the "I'm in high school and know everything" vibe for my taste. Pull up a post on the police doing something wrong or on any international news stories and the comments are hilarious.

But if you get into some small groups, it can be a decent discovery tool.
