NHL and NHLPA reach an agreement - lockout FINALLY over

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...cba-framework/

NHL lockout: Owners, players reach tentative agreement on CBA framework

After more than 16 consecutive hours of bargaining on the 113th day of the lockout, the NHL and NHLPA reached a tentative agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement around 5 a.m. Sunday.

“We have reached an agreement on the framework of a new collective bargaining agreement, the details of which need to be put to paper,” NHL commissioner Gary Bettman said during a news conference, standing next to NHLPA Executive Director Donald Fehr.

“We’ve got to dot a lot of I’s and cross a lot of T’s,” Bettman said. “There’s still a lot of work to be done, but the basic framework of the deal has been agreed upon.”

The deal still requires ratification from the players and the NHL’s Board of Governors before it becomes official, but the league is expected to play a 50- or 48-game season that starts no later than Jan. 19.

Hockey is just a beautiful sport. Love playing and love to attend live games.
Very pleased the lockout is over.
I do however think the season and number of games are just to long, hockey is just brutal with 82 games.
But I think the same about MLB.

Agreed. I played minor hockey and still hit the rinks here every weekend to play shinny in the winter. Nothing like getting a bunch of buddies together n drinking some beers n getting a game going.

If you're getting a free one up, I'd be interested.

I'd love to give a rats ass about hockey, but I don't. It could go away and I wouldn't care.

Hockey, in arena, attendance is good. Their TV numbers stink. I think it's mostly because NHL fans are usually fans of their team and don't care about other teams. I'm a Sabres fan and I care almost not at all about Western Conference teams. NBA fans are more fans of the league I think.
