First US "Safe Injection" Site Expected To Open In California

SF safe injection sites expected to be first in nation, open around July 1
By Heather Knight February 5, 2018 Updated: February 6, 2018 8:26am

San Francisco is on track to open its first two safe injection sites this July, a milestone that will likely make the city the first in the country to embrace the controversial model of allowing drug users to shoot up under supervision. Other cities — including Seattle, Baltimore and Philadelphia — are talking about opening their own safe injection facilities, but San Francisco could get there first. Facilities already exist in Canada, Australia and Europe...The city’s fiscal year starts July 1, and Garcia said safe injection should begin “close to that date.” After officials get a sense of how the first two are working, a third and fourth could open, she said. The safe injection sites will initially be privately funded, though Garcia wouldn’t say where the money’s coming from. She said that will help the city avoid liability, since intravenous drug use is against state and federal law. Opening the sites doesn’t require the approval of the Board of Supervisors or other city officials.

Meh, just keep it in Cali/S.F., maybe the rest of the country will just import their addicts and have illegals shoot them up with the heroine they brought with them. But with clean needles. San Francisco is the perfect place for stuff like that, really progressive.

Well, my oldest daughter voted Hildebeast so maybe I am a failed father

But none of them are doing drugs. Heck, I don't think any of them even drink But even if they were, I know I did my best to raise them so if they had then decided knowing full well the consequences of their actions and they did it anyway. I wouldn't treat them much different than some random junkie, maybe even worse because I know they knew better.

But like I said before, as long as their are $0 federal tax dollars involved, Commiefornia can do as it pleases.

I have no problem whatsoever with somebody ruining their lives with drugs. It's where tax dollars become involved is where my problem starts. Screwing up your life was a personal decision, the government shouldn't be on the hook for it.

(Disclaimer on the free choice of using drugs: That is with the understanding that we all still have access to firearms. When of of these examples of human waste try to break into my house to fuel their habit, I want to be ready to instantly cure them of their disease )

You consider yourself a failed father if your child got into a car accident, was prescribed an opiate pain killer, trusted their doctor and took said opiate pain killer, then ended up addicted following the prescription of said pain killer, and when the prescription ends, turned to heroin?

Such a negative, zero excuse attitude would only hurt the situation.

Shame Americans see drug abuse and issues as "Failures", because that is a reason a lot of people don't get help.

Bad example in my case, we have already explained to our kids about those pain killers also. Just because a doctor prescribes them it doesn't change the fact it's poison. Opiates are not the only option for pain.

But in many cases I guess you have a point, America is full of idiots that can't think for themselves. And like I have said twice now, as long as $0 tax dollars are involved, more power to them.

Gateway drug for sure. Will always need to have more and bigger prisons as they fall into a life of crime to support their government encouraged habits.

If this keeps these folks out of the ER waiting rooms - it might be a net gain for California.

I took my wife to the ER several months back - got there at 1am.....got seen by a doctor at about 6:30am.

of course, there's a whole lot of "other" issues as to why that is common here........

That's entirely possible, I don't know if the info was redily available, so I will yeild to you on that on with a little footnote. Common sense still plays a factor in some of this stuff....... or should at least.

And as I said earlier, they have the information/knowledge. At this point it is on them to act wisely. If they decide being a junkie would be cool, I would treat them nearly similar to any other junkie I happen to stumble across.

I have a cousin who took that stuff as a kid, and he is indeed a little screwed up in the head. But he isn't a junkie. Do them drugs lead people to heroin use? That's the first I have heard of that.

The real shame is people want to do any damn thing they please, then when the consequences catch up to them, they want to run and cry to somebody to fix their problem. This country is in crisis mode as far as personal responsibility goes. Always quick to blame someone/something for the poor poor mess they are in.

None of this has to cost the government a damn dime. Unless the government got someone hooked on the stuff, then you would have an argument.
