Nolan's Batman 3 Title

Batman sequel 'Rises' again

LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D.

Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title.

Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales.

Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP

I'm going to preface this by saying that I am not a big Batman fan. I was into Marvel comics when I was a kid and really only liked the Flash when it came to DC superheroes. When it comes to the Batman movies, I prefer the Burton flicks too. I've seen them multiple times and own both.

BB and TDK didn't do that much for me. They were definitely slicker productions with much better effects but I came out of them - "meh". I will say that I didn't see either until they came out on DVD, so maybe the expectations were too high from all of the hype (especially with TDK).

I am not a connoisseur or film snob; I simply know if I enjoyed something or not and I enjoyed the Burton Batman more. I am definitely not saying the Nolan films are bad (I own both and will watch them again before the third comes out) but if I had to choose, I would take the Burton films.
I love the gothic feel to and look to Burton's Gotham.

The fact that burton has open contempt for the character and the Batman mythos really soured me on his films. He hates those movies. He hates batman. He hates comic books.

It's no wonder he's always putting that self important douche Depp in all of his films.

He did make one of my all time favorite movies (big fish), but he's still an asshole.

Also, I love Phifer and she was so hot in that movie but the Catwoman character (cat zombie woman) was just reeruned.

Dark Knights ends with all of Gotham thinking Batman is a murdering villain.

But yeah, Burton hates Batman.

Burton & Shumacher can go get ****ed, as far as i'm concerned.

Its a Nolan Landslide in my mind, and thats coming from a guy who paid to see those other turds several times & wore them all out at home to boot, ate'em up... but i simply didnt know, what i did not know... after Batman Begins, they simply ceased to exist for me.

I think it's like Donner's Superman. It seemed awesome at the time (I was 15 when Batman came out, loved it) but the more time passes, the less it works for me. At this point I'm not sure I'd even watch it if it came on some cable channel in the middle of the night and there was nothing else on.

Might feel the same way about Nolan's in 20 years, after it's been rebooted again with something new and awesome, but I suspect not. They're better movies, and they stand up as movies, rather than just "comic book movies".

Exactly, as a kid, the first Superman ruled and i can still REALLY appreciate many things about it, young Clark setting up the Fortress scene was incredible & Donner DID try to take a serious tone with it in certain scenes... but time reveals the corn, as great as Reeve really was for the part, the movie doesnt stand up around him.

I would imagine its a very tough thing to do, getting a comic hero movie 'right'... you (usually) have to have the kids onboard to succeed, but if you can Ace it like Nolan, or Snyder with Watchen, it can totally stand on its own merit with adults.

Had to save that for posterity. Love that dick, do you?

The original superman is unwatchable for me now. It's so unbelievably saccharine. Maybe as I get older I get more cynical, but as my age goes up, my ability to stomach corny stuff goes down.

And as i think about it, Donner actually got Clark Kent/alter ego mostly right... it was the camp of Lex Luthor & Beattys idiot henchman that ruined it, and what a shame, Hackman could've spit FIRE given a meaty, more serious villain to confront Chris Reeve with.

I still love the first two Superman movies. Will never tire of them. But, I do agree that Luther should not have been used as the comic relief of the movie.

Guys, Superman II is infinitely better than Superman I. Which is infinitely better than Superman Returns.
