Ian Rapoport has some kind of Chiefs news

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet

Speaking of the #Chiefs… if you're interested in some news, I'd watch Total Access on @nflnetwork in 8 minutes. I'll have some.

Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet

As I said on Total Access: #Chiefs are actively pursuing a long-term deal with WR Dwayne Bowe. They've met with his reps, want to keep him.

Baldwins a joke! Bowe didn't have a good coaching staff to coach him up in 07 yet he's a stud WR and developed

You apparently missed the part about a legit QB throwing him the ball.

Again what legit QB did Bowe have throwing to him? None! Your argument is so false

There's an excellent chance that Baldwin's not going to amount to shit at this level, even his fans (and I'll admit to being one) will concede that point.

However - look at the shit that Scooter left on this roster. What's the harm in giving him a year under a competent staff with a decent QB throwing him the ball?

Why are we so eager to cut him? He's not that expensive being a late first rounder. He shouldn't be getting displaced by Dexter McCluster or any of the parade of undersized non-prospects we've filled this roster with.

Committing to him as a guy that's going to be an elite #2 is a bad idea, yes. However, having seen flashes of what he's capable of and now having a staff in place that will play to a players strengths and not religiously adhere to a scheme, why not give him a season and see if we can salvage something from the pick?

I think we can safely conclude that he's not going to be a star in this league. I also think it's too early to conclude he can't be anything in this league. A lot of WRs take a few seasons to develop; the superstars don't, but some pretty good ones do. Lets give the kid a year to see if he's taking the Vincent Jackson approach to being a decent player. We don't really have anything to lose.

people are eager to cut him just like other fans and other teams were eager to part with first round busts: Vernon Gholston, Aaron Maybin, Aaron Curry, Andre Smith, etc

happens all the time. Giving a free pass to a guy that clearly doesnt have NFL "it" factor and treating him like hes a 6th round prospect is not the way to go. He will eventually hurt the team more than he helps it once the new FO drafts or signs players at his position to compete and eventually beat him out...

you are really going to enjoy our first round WR becoming 5th or 6th on the depth chart?

and people really need to start comparing him to Vincent Jackson, he will never be half the player Vincent Jackson is.

I can't get over feeling like Baldwin's best value to this team at this moment is trade bait, like sending a third and Baldwin to Minny for Harvin.

I'm also fine to keeping him just to see what Reid and his offense would bring out of Baldwin. Cutting him outright is just plain bad business, if not outright dumb.

If he does, then so be it.

Don't demote him, make other guys do it. No, Dexter McCluster hasn't earned being ahead of Baldwin on the depth chart, nor has Wylie. You don't hate them as much because they weren't first round picks, but they've been awful as well.

Breaston belongs ahead of Baldwin, to be sure. I still think he's ideally suited to be a slot receiver, but if we're going on merit only, Breaston should be the #2.

Baldwin has as clean a claim to the #3 WR role as anyone on the roster and yeah, we should give him a crack at it. If he can't do it, he's gone. WRs are likely to be all they're going to be by their 3rd season; if he's still awful, then you hope you can replace him and you move along.

And for the record, your list kinda makes my point. Gholston got 3 seasons. Andre Smith got 3 seasons. Maybin didn't, but man what a weird case he was (the incredible shrinking man) and Curry was traded in his 3rd season after he was clearly displaced by a player that was outperforming him.

3 seasons is not too much to ask, especially for a guy that, for everything he isn't, does show some ability go go up and get the ball and could be a decent deep threat.

To think we could've had either one of those guys is truly stomach turning.

Talk about reversal of fortune.

Baldwin could be Demarious Thomas 2, or Mike Williams 2.

I'm not gonna judge him because of 3 factors:

Matt Cassel/Brady Quinn
Bill Muir
Brian Daboll
