Chiefs Offseason Planet Evaluation: Alex Smith

Even the MVP must get a grade card. Let the world know what you think.

Alex played in 15 games with 15 starts this season (sitting out one game to watch the Ghost of Christmas Future). He completed 341 passes at a 67.5% completion rate, for 4,402 yards and 8.0 yards per attempt. He threw 26 touchdown passes and 5 interceptions. His quarterback rating was 104.7.

Atop that, he ran for 355 yards and 1 TD, at 5.9 yards per rush.

I gave him a B+. Started off like a MVP, stunk in the middle, and good enough at the end. I fully expected him to have a good season with Mahomes in the wings, but as soon as the MVP talk started, he regressed to his old game manager self. That said, slightly exceeded. He is what he is, so stable. Off the team. I'm good with a 2nd. Great Wall, they have pretty fair food.

85% want him off the team, yet 44% would part with him for a 2nd round pick at minimum.

Does that mean if a late 3rd round pick is the best they could do in a trade, then people would rather keep Smith?

Had he played his whole tenure here like he did this year, I’d be an a.

A lot of that was due to lack of personnel though so not all his fault

I’d go B.

Alex looked lost during the GIANTS loss and his lame throw on fourth down missing a wide open A. Hunt to end any chance at a win revealed all we need to know. Alex is not a QB that will get you to the Super Bowl. He is not worthy of a 17 million dollar 2018 roster spot

For the money he'd make sitting on the bench, if it came down to that I'd trade for the bottle of Pibb. Some team will cough up a 2.

Alex never showed the drive and desire to win it all. He has always been satisfied to be the big fish in a small pond that gets overwhelmed when the stakes get higher. Mediocrity is his ceiling and it will never expand. Get a second round pick and let Mahomes lead us to the apex of the Great Pyramid!

All this.

I think his value is a 2nd but I doubt we'll get a 4th...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

It's not weird. This team was laid out before him on a silver platter.

He wasted one of the best opportunities in franchise history.

Forget the two home playoff games he blew. WE HAD A TOP 5 DEFENSE AND RUSHING ATTACK AND HE DIDN'T EVEN MAKE THE PLAYOFFS ONE YEAR.
Reid catches none of that blame?

As I've said before: Andy Reid is the best thing that ever happened to Doug Smith.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

When Andy is scheming receivers open the trigger has to be pulled.

Career year stats-wise, went from worst deep ball passer in the league to #1 - thats a B+

That said he came up short in too many key situations, so for that reason...

B+ If he could've held the Titans off in the 2nd half of their playoff game I would've gave him an A. His numbers were great but if you think about how many drops there were his numbers for the season would've been even better. He needs to go where fans will appreciate what he can do for their team. Which is be solid and create a winning culture like the Chiefs have right now. A QB that tries do all of the right things on the field, in the locker room, training rooms, and off the field. I have no doubt he'll bring all of that to his next team.

A whole one drop per game. And three or four of these were against the Broncos when Mahomes started. LIAR LIAR YOUR PANTS ON FIRE.

You're a joke. There were at least 5 drops that would've been TDs. So, he would've had more TDs. He also sat out of that meaningless game Mahomes played in.
