Qb Drafting Guessing game.

The stuff posted about who scouts like and who they don't, got me thinking about predraft rankings.

So lets play a little game. I tried it in another thread but it kinda got buried.

I think this will be a good visual for some of the "don't draft x QB early, he isn't Luck etc" fans.

So, I will post a pre draft scouting report and you guys try and guess the player.

Put this one in the other thread so we will start with it.

POSITIVES: Athletic passer with the physical skills and mental intangibles needed to lead a franchise at the next level. Quickly sets up in the pocket, sells ball fakes and technically very sound. Poised under the rush, steps up to avoid defenders and works to keep the play alive. Patient, buys time in the pocket and waits for receivers to come free. Does an excellent job with his reads and natural looking off the safety. Does not make mental errors and throws the ball away rather than toss the errant pass. Times the short and intermediate throws well, as receivers rarely wait for the ball out of their breaks. Outstanding vision and immediately spots the open receiver. Possesses a quick release, live arm and zips the outs or gets the ball downfield. Throws with touch. Sits in the pocket and takes a big hit in order to get the pass off. Fleet-footed and picks up yardage with his legs when necessary.

NEGATIVES: Though accurate, lacks top pass placement and has receivers extending vertically to pull the ball out of the air. Must improve his accuracy down the field. Lacks top footwork releasing the ball off a three step drop. Lacks pocket stature.

ANALYSIS: A physically gifted passer with a great understanding of the position, _____ has made himself one of the nation's top quarterback prospects the past two seasons. May not fit every system, but should quickly flourish in the NFL for a timing offense that does not throw the ball down the field with regularity. Offers a good amount of upside and is a coachable player who should continually improve his game.

PROJECTION: Early First Round

Who is it?

Here's another one.

A vocal leader in the huddle. Arm strength is not spectacular but strong enough. Not a threat to run the ball , but scrambles extremely well. Solid with his technique.
Weaknesses
Accuracy is the number one concern. 19 interceptions in 14 games is unacceptable for a first round pick. Most interceptions are a result of short arming passes

All QB's listed are currently in the league.

The last one is from an actual GM.

And the player is Eli Manning.

No one wins that one.

Really hard to tell, but that'd be my guess too. Maybe Flacco?

Strengths: Elite frame with excellent height and in great condition ... No questions about arm strength; shows elite arm strength on 15- to 20-yard stick throws (outs, posts) ... Uses nice touch and throws a catchable ball ... Can throw the ball on the run ... Very low interception percentage from sophomore to junior year; Solid decision maker ... Nice footwork and has a quick drop ... Outstanding feel for the pass rush ... Great mobility and can gain yardage with his feet ... Extremely high upside.

Weaknesses: Accuracy was abysmal in junior year ... Locks on to receivers and shows below-average field vision ... Wildly inconsistent; runs hot and cold ... Questionable leadership ... Intangibles will go under the microscope by pro scouts who can talk to ___ players and coaches.

Positives: Has added over ten pounds of bulk and muscle tone to his frame during the 2005 offseason … Shows good mobility rolling out of the pocket and decent quickness driving back from center to his throwing point … Does a good job of hitting his receivers in stride in the short area, especially on crossing patterns … Tough player who absorbs a lot of punishment due to marginal protection, yet has missed only three-quarters of one game and one-quarter of another due to injuries … Shows good touch and accuracy on underneath routes … Has the balance and lateral agility to step up to avoid the pass rush … Despite holding the ball low, he has the arm power and quick throwing motion to get the ball out with velocity on screens … Can buy time in the backfield when flushed out due to his foot quickness … Has a lively arm with a snappy release (but needs mechanical refinement).

Negatives: Might be a little gun-shy from all the punishment he has taken over the years … Needs to do a better job of securing the ball before running, as he has fumbled 25 times the last two years … Must do a better job at the pre-snap recognizing defensive schemes, as he does not always scan the field well … Seems to lack confidence with his receivers, failing to anticipate when his targets will be breaking, resulting in a high amount of deflected passes … Spends too much time eyeballing his primary target, rarely looking off to locate his secondary receivers (this causes a lot of interceptions (27) and pass deflections (149) over the last three years, including 74 pass break-ups in 2005) … Must learn how to step into his throws to generate better accuracy (steps back on too many of his tosses) … Uses poor judgment at times when flushed out of the pocket, either holding on to the ball too long resulting in a sack, or throwing the ball up for grabs causing costly interceptions … Has good touch in the short area, but because he carries the ball so low, he does not get ideal trajectory to feather the ball over the head of the defender … Lacks accuracy throwing on the run, especially when unleashing from the left hash … Rotates his hips too much through his release and needs to throw off the front foot more.
