How bout the Chargers and the Brandon Flowers contract? What a god awful mess that was for them.

The Chiefs have 30 mil in cap space.
The tag for corners is going to be close to $14 million. That doesn't leave you much for Howard, Berry, any upgrades at WR or OL, etc. Unless Sean Smith takes a very cheap deal I think he's a goner. And speaking of cheap deals...unless DJ takes one dump him, too. This team can't afford a 34-year old ILB at a premium. I bet he takes a hometown deal though, as the Chiefs are his last chance to win anything significant for sure. |

Cornerbacks have their best seasons before age 30.

so dump DJ when we have nothing groomed behind him, but sign all the other 28/29 year old FAs at a premium, but then have complete inexperience at the ILB next season and watch our defense get smoked. Makes sense, sounds like a great recipe sign me up.

The reason I pose this question is because I assume we re-sign DJ and Berry, which makes it highly unlikely the Chiefs find room to sign both Smith and Howard.

I love Howard. Smith is good too. Like to have them both back.

Dorsey has shown the ability to draft high quality corners that seem to be able to play right away with Gaines and Peters.
I'd sign Howard and then draft another corner |

The real poll should be "should we keep Howard, Smith and Berry?"
Because if we give them all decent signing bonuses, that's very doable...along with keeping DJ, Abdullah and Allen. |

I doubt Dorsey risked rocking the boat by offering Howard 9. |
