Gus kicks so much ass. It will be sad when he is gone, although I'm hoping Walt will find something to hold on Gus so that they both can survive together.

You can argue that Gale wasn't an innocent, but what about Brock? Walt may have convinced Jesse with his story (that was an brilliantly acted scene, btw), but he didn't convince me. I don't think it was Gus that poisoned the kid at all, he had little motivation. I think it was Walt.

Edit: Went back to watch the scene with him spinning the gun (before inexplicably disappearing for half the episode). The gun points to a plant on the 3rd spin (that he stares long and hard at). Ricin comes from castor oil plants.

I suppose we'll know soon who did it, but as I said last week, Walt is capable of pretty much anything at this point (especially when his or his family's lives are in danger). Manipulating people as pawns (particularly Jesse) is something he's become very good at.

Salon had an interesting explanation for that scene which I'll post. The reviewer was sort of down on this episode, though, but anticipating that the next episode will offer a plausible explanation for its events.

Consider the parking garage scene at the end of this episode. While I found it a bit hard to believe that Walt would be able to find a rooftop spot that gave him a clear and precise view of Gus’ rigged-to-explode car — what if Gus’ men had parked on a side or a floor of the garage that could not be seen from an available rooftop? – I found the rest of the scene quite credible. I read some complaints last night that Gus’ sudden decision not to get in his car was too mysterious — that it made him seem like too much the arch-criminal, feeling bad stirrings in The Force and acting on them.

But those complaints are shortsighted. His behavior here was classic Gus, totally consistent with what we know about him.

Why was Gus at the hospital? Because Jesse demanded it, with a stubbornness that he had never expressed to Gus before. It seems quite plausible that Gus would leave his conversation with Jesse pondering the circumstances that led up to it. Maybe as he made his way back to the car he thought something like, “Why did Jesse insist that I come here? He’s never disrespected my authority so flagrantly before. Maybe he made me come here so that he could kill me. And since the car was left unattended, a person — for example Jesse’s partner Walt, a brilliant chemist and tinkerer — could easily accomplish that with a bomb.” When he surveyed the skyline around the garage, I don’t think he knew where Walt was, or that he was even looking for any one person in particular, or that he knew there was a bomb in his car. I think he just wanted to see if it was possible to monitor what was happening in the garage from somewhere else downtown. Once he realized that it was in fact possible, he turned around and walked out. It doesn’t matter if suspected car bomb, a sniper attack or some other threat. He just thought there was something fishy about the entire meeting, and that it was better not to hang around in the garage any longer.

So Gus now realizes he is down two chemists, and the DEA is now snooping around. Does he pull the plug on the entire operation in the finale?

I could see the case for Walt being the poisoner, but can't see when he relieved Jesse of the ricin cigarette (not that he couldn't have made more ricin, but they made a point of Jesse not having it anymore)
I can see the case for Gus being the poisoner, but don't know how he knew about the cigarette, and what exactly the poison was unless he has Jesse's house bugged - which is entirely possible. That would make Gus the coolest customer around - traveling and working with Jesse while aware of that threat.

How has Skyler not blurted out the truth yet?
Has Hank got it all figured out (about Walt) and is just playing it out for the bigger prize (Gus)?

I don't think it was Walt. He'd have to be some kind of super-stealthy ninja to pull that off. This is Walt we're talking about here. Master of subtlety and subterfuge he is not. He's more of a toss a bomb down in the middle Tuco's hideout/car bomb Gus kind of guy. (Yes, I realize he created the ricin, and why, but when has he ever successfully pulled anything off....)

Although I'm not convinced it's Gus, either. That could just be paranoia on Walt's part being translated to Jesse and by extension the viewer.

It it possible it was just an accident? Maybe we'll start the next episode with a flashback to the kid digging through Jesse's cigarettes, finding the cigarette in question, and then somehow ricin ensues.

The whole concept of the kid being deliberately poisoned seems somewhat far-fetched to me. Culprit would have to know Jesse has the cigarette, would have to know what that cigarette contains, would have to somehow successfully poison only the kid. Seems like a lot of moving parts. Easier to just shoot him.
