The Motorcycle Discussion Thread

I figure there are some motorcycle guys/gals on CP, so I thought we could have a place to talk all things Motorcycles.

Tire Mount and Balance Prices (as of 10/29/16)

Prices based on if you remove the wheels yourself and bring the wheels and new tires with you:

Cycle Gear - $35 per wheel if you buy tires from them. $58 per wheel if you buy tires elsewhere
Rawhide - $65 per wheel (assuming it would be the same at other HD dealers. they book it at 1/2 hr per wheel)
C R Cycle Tires (DeSoto) - $30 per wheel

Cheapest I've found my Michelin Commander II's. Seem like they have good prices on other brands too.
http://www.jakewilson.com - Free 3 day shipping on orders over $75

I've said it many times in this thread, but I absolutely love my Victory Cross Country.

Have you guys seen the new motor HD is coming out with? It's called the Milwaukee- Eight. It's a single cam V-twin.

I have been reading about it..I'm curious to see how it does..I'm sure the first year will have lots of bugs but should be a good one after it gets smoothed out

Edit: I have found a 2016 Cross Country in Arizona for $13700..I'm seriously thinking about taking a trip next month

I do.
I love the Triple Motor. I bought the bike with 2K on it and am currently on 30K.
Great on the road, great on fire roads and gravel.
Just don't drop it because it is tough to pick up.

Exactly. Wet weight of 473lbs. Then add 5 gallons of gas if full, then add all your gear in the boxes etc. Anymore I also carry a come along if riding in questionable places, just in case I need to drag the bike up from landing in a bad spot down low.

I'd like to run run a foot clutch and jockey shift, but don't think I have the stones to roll a true suicide clutch set up (no front brake etc). Think I'd have to have me a front brake.

yep. It's really quite incredible the amount of people that text, or whatever else with their phone in the middle of traffic. selfish mother ****ers.
Monday on my way to work, I35 is backed up like a MF in the morning south bound. bumper to bumper but moving at probably 15 -20. I got to witness TWO idiots. It was beautiful. Car 1 was a nice, fairly new Jeep Cherokee and Car 2 was a nice 2 door Scion. Both women. both on their ****ing phones like their scientists that NASA just HAD to talk to right now to save the day.

I love it when karma is dealt immediately. Something so satisfying about seeing it happen. I had one lady come over into my lane with out using a signal. I pass her, get in front of her, and come back over. Using a signal of course. So as I'm coming over, I am pointing at my signal, as if to say "See, this is what they are used for." That was the beginning. As I passed her I noticed her nose down in her phone, so I flipped her off. I noticed at that point she was following me...

This all took place on 470. By the time she caught up to me, we were on woods chapel at a stop light. She was yelling something, but due to my full face helmet, engine, and stereo, I really couldn't make out what she was saying. So I just flipped her off and yelled "Put your ****ing phone down, you fat ****ing bitch." This is not what she wanted to hear. She kept holding up two fingers for some reason. Not sure if she was saying she only looked at her phone twice, or that she needed two big macs, but her face was about as red as a chiefs uni. I figured at that point, I had sufficiently ruined her day, so I quit toying with her and took off.

As far as the dust, I get a leaf blower and blow it off when I am done. Re-Oil the chain and good to go.
Last Fall I did a Trans-Iowa Gravel ride. Start at the Loess Hills in the West and ended in Dubuque in the East. Took a lot of B roads as well as 90% Gravel. It was fantastic
I do a lot of gravel cruising too. but in my truck. there is a shit ton of stuff you see.

What a great weekend on my bike. Started Saturday morning, where my friends and I raised around 1400 bucks to send a couple of disabled kiddos to camp. Then, after the ride, went to Columbia for a bbq with some friends down there. Hit up White Castle late, then came home Sunday morning after the shitting slowed down a little bit. I don't even keep track of miles anymore, I know between Saturday morning, and getting home Sunday, I filled my bike up 4 times. Hope you all got some knees in the breeze time too.

man, i don't know what it is, but the last week or so, I've REALLY been eyeing Ducati Monsters again. After the wreck, and dealing with all the paperwork/insurance BS Still, I'm not sure I'm all that hip on getting into another similar financial commitment like I was in with the Street Glide. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED that bike, but Christ they're expensive. I like that "$10k" range as a rule for bikes. If I lived somewhere that I could ride virtually year round, I would be more inclined to buy a more expensive bike. But living in KC, I've always hovered in that 10k market.

I'm seeing Monsters, 796, 1100, 1200, for dirt cheap by comparison to the HDs. Another one I like, though not quite the used market that the Monster has, is the Aprilia Tuono. I rode an Aprilia 750 Shiver, then a Tuono probably around 2010-ish. Both were great. The Tuono had wicked torque, and that was back when it was just the V-twin and not the V-4 like it is now. I've ridden a Duc monster 696 and 1100 back when they had a dramatic styling shift to more like what they look like now...probably back in like 2010 as well. The 696 was fun as shit. But then I immediately rode the 1100 and the torque, again, was addicting.

I'm AMAZED at the technology leap, even since around 2008, in terms of electronics. ABS, traction control, wheelie control etc, all at the push of a button. my full-on sport bike days are over. I'm too old, too fat, and don't feel like going to jail. Though, the Monsters or Tuono will definitely break several laws very easily.

I still love Harleys, but man....for a 1/2 to 1/3 of the price, I could get a scoot that would blow it away in terms of performance. Not just in power delivery, but in electronics, agility, clearance, and most importantly braking. during my wreck, I grabbed a handful of front brake, was on the rear hard, and man......it was just tough to stop 1000 lbs (including my 250lb ass).

My wife came in while I was browsing cycletrader and craigslist and saw the types of listings I was looking at, and just let out a discouraged "....oh shit....." and kept walking.

I need to ride the Diavel . that thing, when the first came out a few years ago, I was 'meh' on the styling....but man,....I'm really digging them now. I've heard they're ****ing amazing.

Ducati X Diavel S
I believe the X has the forward controls and belt drive. The other Diavels, I think, are chain and standard peg position. probably a bit rich for my blood for a '16, but used ones are in that 10-14k range with low miles.

GD thing makes like 160HP out of the box. and around 97# of torque around 5k RPM. My Street Glide was about 75 HP and around 90#, but weighed probably 200+lbs more (guessing here). Bad ass 240 rear tire, that despite the size, doesn't appear to get any complaints in the handling / cornering department.

FF to aroudn 1:45 for the meat and potatoes. Granted, bike vs car is almost always a mismatch, but the vid is good. good sounds, and a cool car involved.

Nah.
At least not yet. Lol. Keep finding myself reading up more and more on them. Really like the monsters but man, the diavel, I just can't get enough of.

Might have to test ride one soon.
