Electronics Pro/Con of enrolling a cell phone using wifi for calls

I'm in limbo at my house for a decent cell phone signal. Sometimes it's decent, other times it's crap. I have the option of using my wifi to place/receive calls, etc..

I have a couple of questions.

If I use wifi at home will my phone work away from home like a normal cell phone? Will text messages come over wifi or are they still dependent on cell phone coverage?

Unless your cell phone company offers WiFi calling, you'll we need to get an app and another phone number to do the VOIP calling like Google Voice.

Google Voice + Hangouts = free wifi calling

Use Hangout for wifi calls
Use normal Cell phone app(button) for cell phone calls

My cell phone company offers WiFi calling. It takes an enrollment submission for e911. Not a big deal.

I'm just curious if it will switch from WiFi to cell when I'm not at home. It seems like a good deal, but I'm not sure of the negatives of doing this.

Mine switches to cell coverage when I'm not home. I've experienced no downsides to wifi calling, the only difference has been good reception at home.

I had an Air Rave when I had Sprint (**** Sprint, btw). The only issue I ever had was if I left the house while on a call, the phone wasn't capable of switching from wifi to regular signal so the call would invariably drop when I lost wifi signal.

Sounds like you're on Republic Wireless?
