rabblerouser : I also think that the Chiefs can still win with Alex Smith

But not with Andy Reid.

There's no reason to rush it but there is a critical urgency to find a clear QBOTF. Not just giving a young QB a shot... finding a guy we believe can start for us for 10 years.
over the past few days I've realized that Alex Smith isn't the problem. it's Andy Reid. I think the Chiefs can definitely win with Alex Smith, win a Super Bowl even.

We'd need a coach like a Gruden/Payton/Harbaugh/Carroll/Garrett/McCarthy type to get the most of Smith and our talented but underachieving offense.

That would be a great move. I like Nick Foles.

That would make the offseason much better.

The problem with Andy Reid is he wants his quarterback to pass 45 times like a gun slinger but Alex Smith is no gun slinger never has been he is best at 25 passing reps with a solid run game to set up the pass.

I really don't get his infatuation with Alex Smith that he thinks he can pass all those downs and then Alex Smith throws sideways more than any quarterback I've ever seen so still doesn't make since what Andy sees in him?

Makes no since and here we are again with ego that Andy Reid ego to stick with Alex Smith is what is going get in the way building a championship team.

If they really like a QB they should draft him with their top pick. Use the rest on best available ILB, RB, OLB and OG.
Drafting a 3rd round QB or later sounds like lip service "Hey we are trying can't you see?". It also doesn't create enough pressure on Smith/Foles as a 1st rounder would.
But one thing is sure, if by some miracle Smith is cut/traded and rookie/Foles starts there is no looking back "Wish we had Smith, at least we were winning lot of games". Have to take the early lumps and a possible 2-3 year window of fighting to even make the wildcard.

Perhaps it's time to end the whole other team's QB scraps and draft and develop our own starting QB? We can take our lumps for a season.
Raiders/Carr
Bucs/Winston
Titans/Mariota
Vikings/Bridgewater (kinda)
Colts/Luck
Eagles/Wentz
Cowboys/Prescott

I would argue most of these recently drafted QB's would do well in KC with the players they would have around them. Granted they may not have been able to get some of these players but they didn't try to either. KC has been passing up on quality QB's for years and the trend will probably continue!

The teams above had to take their lumps when drafting a QB and it's about time the Chiefs gave it a shot to develop a great QB instead of having mediocre QB play. Maybe, there's a QB in this years draft they can grab?

We can have our cake and eat it too.

Face it, Alex is going to be here next season because of his contract.

Now is the time to draft a QB.

We can win the division and compete for the division.

We are actually in a very good place.

A good place to do what? Win the division and lose in the first round again?

I've seen this movie, the boat still sinks at the end.

You people are ****ing crazy.

It's a good time to draft and develop a QB. We're not cutting Smith. Get that idea out of your head, but we can begin to look to the future. You don't have to blow up this team to win. Now are we going to the Supre Bowl next year? Probably not as long as Tom Brady and Big Ben are around, but their time is coming to an end.

My only point is that the Chiefs are in a unique situation that doesn't require them to blow everything thing up.

My all time favorite quick movie review in the Kansas City Star was for Titanic. The plot review simply said "Glub....Glub....Glub...."
