The negativity of this place gets a little tiresome at times. I, as many want and desire a young first round QB, I was even on the Barkley wagon this year. However, the hate of Alex Smith is a little over-board. Am I personally happy we sent a 2nd rounder for him? Absolutely not, but he is far better than the majority of people are giving him credit for. He was a fumbled punt away from taking his team the the SB two years ago, in which he played very well in the playoffs, and off to a pretty good season last year.

With that being said, I am not saying I love the guy, but he is 20 times better than Casshole, and anyone who says otherwise has never seen him play in a game... The Chiefs will compete this year, they will compete for the wild card.

I could see a 10-6 season, with Alex Smith playing well, like he will do for the next 3-4 years. It's bitter-sweet, we won't get the QB we want in the first round, but this WILL be a competitive team, that WILL be fun to watch..

I am calling it now. Smith will throw for 3500 yards, 28 td's, and 11 INTS.

Boom.

If we waist the next two three maybe four years on Alex Smith before we draft a top QB prospect to replace him and not win a Super Bowl, then players like DJ and Tamba Hali and JC and even the ****ing punter Dustin Colquitt can kindly say **** you to the new regime and end their careers with another team.

This is a realistic outlook if we don't draft a quarterback in the next couple of years. We have nothing to gain with Alex Smith.

Agree with the OP. On paper this is definitely a contending football team. Look at how the roster stacks up position by position with the last 2 49er teams. I'd argue this team is about equal everywhere else but has more talent in the secondary, one more outside pass rusher, and more explosive offensive skill position players.

The question is what Andy Reid can do with them.

FWIW he also faced the NFC East that season and went 3-1 with 912 yards,6 td's and 2 int's,his only loss was to Dallas and that went to OT.

I just don't see it in Alex Smith to come in here with this passing attack that Andy Reid has in store for us and light up the score board.

The burden is on them to prove it I sure the hell would like to see some good quarterbacking and matriculate the ball down field on drives that end in touchdowns.

Prove it and I will be happy to go along with it.

Don't prove it and be the way I think it's going to end up then **** Alex Smith and draft a ****ing quarterback so we can move on to better things.

Give Alex another year, he's earned it. The defense fell apart during the last half of the season but the offense really started to gel. Get him a #1 Wide Receiver and see what he can do. Hopefully Kelce can actually play this next season.
