Chiefs Alternate History Madden Franchise: Can Joe Montana take KC back to the SB?

Return of Mals: Joe Montana Edition

Downloaded a 1993 NFL Roster updated for Madden 17 last night.



All teams and players are edited to reflect their 1993 counterparts. Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Warren Moon and JOE MONTANA are all on this roster along with every other starter AND backup from 1993. This roster is so accurate it has Andre Ware on the Lions. Titans serve as the Oilers, Texans and Jags are full of generic assholes.

Chiefs have Joe, Marcus, DT, Smith, Carter, etc. Whoever did this is a genious and even got the player equipment right. Faces are computer-generated and coaches are wrong, but can't have everything.





The goal: get the Chiefs back in the SB with Montana at starting QB. Franchise will run until Joe retires. Not allowed to switch QBs.

Week 5: Cowboys @ Chiefs

It's literally the 90s Cowboys + Rod Woodson. BEAST. This isn't gonna be easy.

On the Cowboy first possession Troy Aikman goes DEEP for Michael Irvin.



PRAISE BE TO PRIME. After an exchange of punts, the Chiefs take over at the 40 and put Greg Hill in the game.



IT'S THE REAL DEAL, BITCHES! An unexpected big play from the rookie. This is going well. Can I keep stopping the Dallas offense?



DOWN GOES AIKMAN. On the Chiefs next possession Willie Davis FALLS DOWN on his route. Let's see what happens.



WHAT A THROW. The Chiefs get a field goal and it's 10-0. Dallas gets a field goal and the Chiefs have third and 1 from their own 32 on the next possession.



BIG PLAY from rookie Lamar Smith. My young halfbacks are producing big time. This leads to another TD and at 17-3 I'm feeling good. But they are the Dallas Cowboys.



Wow, Emmitt ****s me hard. I hold Dallas to a field goal there though and it's 17-6 at the half. I open the second half with the ball, and know I need to score here, though. 17 isn't gonna be enough.



Dallas leaves Willie Davis one-on-one with a safety and I get an absolutely gorgeous throw from Joe Montana. Looks like I'm going to pull this off.



Dallas responds with a drive and Aikman finds Novacek in the back of the end zone. Then I punt and it looks like the Cowboys are going to get back in the game. They have third and 1 from the Chiefs 46.



HUGE PLAY BY DT. The Cowboys punt. I decide to go for the jugular.



SUCK MY EXHAUST ROD WOODSON. Willie Davis burns the future hall of famer and this one is all but over. The Cowboys do have one more big play in them though.



Whew, that's what I get for pressing Irvin. Good thing I've got that insurance touchdown. The Cowboys get the ball back but Aikman slips on the wet turf.



And DT brings him down. That's game, folks. And now there's just one thing left to do.



PRIMETIME. The Chiefs are 5-0 and the unquestioned best team in the NFL.



Joe Montana: 18-29, 300 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT
Lamar Smith: 18 carries, 60 yards
Greg Hill: 5 carries, 68 yards
Willie Davis: 4 catches, 155 yards, 2 TD
Quinn Early: 5 catches, 54 yards

Week 6: Chargers @ Chiefs

The 1-5 Chargers, who have "upgraded" from Stan Humphries to Chris Miller, and lost Anthony Miller to Buffalo, come to KC. This should be a beatdown amirite?

Natrone MEANS business and he runs me right the **** over. God my safeties suck. This needs to be addressed. Early 10-0 hole against a bad team. GREAT.



13-0. My offense is doing nothing. So I might as well make it worse.



This terrible, terrible pick leads to another Chargers TD. It's 20-0. Do I have another 20-point comeback in me?



A rare pick by Derrick Thomas. This leads to a FG just before halftime. 20-3.



Ernest Givins me a touchdown and suddenly I'm back in the game. Can I pull this off?

BIG PLAY! This leads to a fourth and goal.



Well, I ****ed this up. But I get the ball back quickly with 5 minutes left. LET'S GO!

The Chiefs drop their first game and, to make matters worse, now injuries are taking a toll.



Time to make a move at safety because mine can't tackle for shit. I have a lot of depth at LB so I trade Lonnie Marts, who can't cover for shit, for Marquez Pope, who is a terrific tackler. Charles Mincy moves to CB.

Week 7: Chiefs @ Colts

In the alternate NFL, the Colts re-sign Jeff George and he does not become a Falcon. So let's tee off on this bastard.

The Colts are driving but Mark Collins comes down and makes a huge third-down hit on Roosevelt Potts. That probably saves a TD. 3-0 Colts.



Jeff George sucks, I swear, but on this play he has all day, rears back with that enormous cannon and straight ****s me.



Ugh. Meanwhile, my offensive line is a dumpster fire. Free agent prize Chris Hinton is getting his ass raped by Steve Emtman, who has three sacks in the first half alone. Steve Emtman only had one sack in real life in 1994. WTF?



I do get a field goal, though. At 10-6, the game is still in reach unlike last week.



GEE THANKS ROOKIE. Thankfully, my defense holds and I get the ball back. And then disaster strikes.



Wonderful blitz pickup by Marcus Allen there. I'm ****ed. Or am I?



QUINN EARLY MOTHER****ER. At least ONE of my free agents is paying off this year. Game on. I then force another Colts punt.



TRACY ROGERS BABY! Nothing like a Chiefs blocked punt, the first I've pulled off this year. Now I can take control, and I move the ball down to the 1-yard line thanks to a clutch third down catch by Keith Cash.



TOUCHDOWN. Marcus Allen is back from injury and puts me ahead. But can I stop Jeff George?



YES! Derrick Thomas forcing a Jeff George fumble is so true to life. I can almost taste the win. I only get a field goal off the turnover, though. It's 23-17 and the Colts move the ball all the way to my 11 with 28 seconds left. HOLD ON TO YA BUTTS.



YES! Dale Carter tips the pass and another free agent prize, LB David Brandon, picks the deflection. CHIEFS WIN! A huge comeback victory.

Replays reveal that the ball actually ricocheted off Reggie Langhorne's hands. PHEW!





Next: Broncos @Arrowhead, MNF. Deion returns two weeks early. I'll need him against Elway and Marshall Faulk. Chiefs lose Amp Lee for 6 weeks due to a partially torn ACL.

No, they use whatever playbook is set to default for that coach.

And yes, blitzes like that are an issue. Blitz pickup is terrible in this game, even with a guy who has AWR and PBK like Marcus Allen.

Week 8: Broncos @ Chiefs

NOPE. David Brandon, who was specifically brought in for his coverage abilities, gets his second INT in as many games. King Carl smiles with glee. Unfortunately, Marcus Allen fumbles the ball right back, and the Broncos get a drive going.



AND CHARLES MINCY STOPS THAT DRIVE. My defense is destroying John Elway. This is delicious.



Not so delicious. Shitty throw, Joe. That one's on you. The ensuing kickoff is an equally big play.



OH THAT'S FUN. It wasn't even Deion, as I'm being careful with his injury. Reggie Thornton, a complete JAG in real life, is handling kickoffs. Marcus Allen takes it in on the next play and Arrowhead resumes it's party. 14-7.

But the Broncos respond with a drive that goes deep into Chiefs territory...

Now the offense is going to be very, very aggressive. Denver's corners are terrible. ATTACK!
