Nolan's Batman 3 Title

Batman sequel 'Rises' again

LOS ANGELES - THE next Batman sequel has a title: The Dark Knight Rises. Distributor Warner Bros. confirmed the name for director Christopher Nolan's third adventure about the DC Comics vigilante hero, which follows Batman Begins in 2005 and The Dark Knight in 2008.

The Dark Knight Rises is due in theaters July 20, 2012. Bucking Hollywood's current wave of 3-D movies, Nolan is not planning to shoot the film in 3-D.

Warner Bros had agreed with Nolan's argument that the sequel should resist the 3-D craze, the director told the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog, which first reported the title.

Nolan would not reveal what villain might appear in The Dark Knight Rises, but he said it would not be the Riddler, one of the key bad guys in the comics and past film and TV Batman tales.

Earlier this year, Nolan said he would not resurrect the Joker, the cackling villain played by Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Ledger won the supporting-actor Academy Award for the role, a year after he died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs. -- AP

The Brando scenes really take that movie to the next level. The special effects still suck, though. I remember thinking how horrible they were the first time I saw the movie in the theater.

It's funny how the exact opposite is true of Superman Returns.

I like BB and TDK both a lot. I think TDK trumps it only because Heath DID do a great job as the Joker, and my favorite Batman villain is Two-Face, so that was fun to watch unfold.

I am not a big fan of the Burton Batmans, and I really hate Danny Elfman's music. To hell with his "twisted circus" crap. I do love Jack's Joker though and I wasn't prepared to let anyone trump his performance, but now...I kinda have to give it to Heath. His darker Joker was just brilliant.

Ledger's performance was amazing. He knocked it out of the park. It's unfortunate that some believe people only like it because he died shortly after. The dude was amazing.. unrecognizable.

Disagree.

IMO he was utterly fantastic. I was skeptical at first when they announced the casting of Ledger. I thought "the pretty boy from that gay cowboy movie is gonna be the Joker? Umm okay"
I knew Ledger was a pretty good actor but holy shit his portrayal of the Joker is flat out iconic. His mannerisms and voice are genius. I honestly didnt think he had it in him.

Oh and his "magic trick" is still one of the best things I've ever seen in theaters. I remember the whole audience going "HOLY SHIT" when he did it haha

yeah I felt the same exact way when I initially heard Ledger was cast. His Joker was just evil, twisted, hilarious, and mysterious. I love the fact that they gave him no true origin, and he messed with people on how he got the scars. It's a shame he died. I would have loved to see him pop up in TDKR. I still think they should have had Harley Quinn as a villain.

I don't know if Anne Hathaway as Catwoman is good casting, but since I was so dead wrong about Ledger, I'll keep my mouth shut until I see it.

He is what made the movie go to that next level. The mannerisms where and just overall presence killed it.

I wonder, does anyone have any idea if the Joker would have been in this final movie had he not died?

Yeah I'm pretty sure he would of been (I believe he signed on for two Batman films).
The rumor is that the Joker would of had an epic escape from Arkham Asylum.
