Chiefs Alternate History Madden Franchise: Can Joe Montana take KC back to the SB?

Return of Mals: Joe Montana Edition

Downloaded a 1993 NFL Roster updated for Madden 17 last night.

All teams and players are edited to reflect their 1993 counterparts. Steve Young, Troy Aikman, Warren Moon and JOE MONTANA are all on this roster along with every other starter AND backup from 1993. This roster is so accurate it has Andre Ware on the Lions. Titans serve as the Oilers, Texans and Jags are full of generic assholes.

Chiefs have Joe, Marcus, DT, Smith, Carter, etc. Whoever did this is a genious and even got the player equipment right. Faces are computer-generated and coaches are wrong, but can't have everything.

The goal: get the Chiefs back in the SB with Montana at starting QB. Franchise will run until Joe retires. Not allowed to switch QBs.

LET'S DO THIS!

How did you get this roster? That's awesome. Keith Cash should be like a 80 overall. Was this before we had Louie Aguiar as punter?

I'd also LOVE to have a Chiefs roster from 2003-2005.

Two of those picks aren't on me.

1. First was a tipped ball.

2. Second was a terrible play by the WR. Look at what he does when the ball is thrown. He's practically just giving it to the DB. It's like Birden stopped.

The third was admittedly a bad read, I thought Mo Lewis was going to follow Birden on the slant instead of dropping back into a zone.

The fourth, well...just chucking it up.

I'm having some issues on offense because it's a brand new playbook and a whole new set of players I'm not used to. I'm not throwing anymore balls intermediate or deep to Birden...he's JAG.

There are tons of custom rosters in the online section of Madden 17. I also grabbed a 2002 roster so after this I'll give that a whirl I think, see if can overcome all the bombs toasty and crispy are going to be giving up.

Week 4: Chiefs @ Steelers

Oh good god. Can brittle-ass Montana survive Greg Lloyd, Kevin Greene and Rod Woodson? Into the belly of the beast we go.

Spoiler!

Not being allowed to use the shotgun formation is a huge game changer, especially when the right side of your line is rookie Will Shields and Ricky ****ing Siglar.

He plays quarterback like Alex Smith. He's always just a tick too slow to let the ball go. For all the 'throw him open!' complaints, he's just as bad about waiting until a guy is a stride or two in the clear to release it.

Look at that completion to Davis to set up the short TD on the slant - pure Alex move. Rolling left for no reason at all and waiting too long to throw while Davis takes two more strides towards a defender who's able to leave his man after running out of real estate. If he lets it go when Davis is even with the safety and 'throws him open' by leading it correctly, Davis has at least another yard or two upfield and may just finish the scoring drive right there.

Clay has turned Joe Montana into a mediocre game manager.

FYI, Shields got beat on that PA pass. That's why I rolled left.

The OL has me a bit gun shy. I'm used to playing with the best OL in the league on my 2022 London Bulldogs.

dude you're terrible... how many chances did Marcus Allen get when DT ran it down to the goal line?

I ran it on first down and got stuffed. On second down I called a play action rollout and the DE immediately beat my tackle and sacked Montana. On third down Howie Long immediately beat Siglar and almost forced a fumble.

Now add nine ****ing drops to the equation.

This is an OL and WR problem. Not a Clay problem.

Granted, I should not have dropped back on third and ****ing 19 from my own 1.

I'm going conservative with this team from now on. The talent just isn't there compared to what I'm used to. It's ****ing with my play style.
