I have said it before.

I wish the NFL would go similar to this route, either no pads. Or just thin leather pads and helmets. It would speed the game, and injuries would go down as both sides would quit trying to use their head as a weapon.

Players would not lead with head. Chop blocks would go away, no WR is going to chance to mess up their shoulders from a leather pad.

We would have to do away a lot of stiff arms to the face though. Top of the head or chest would still be fine.


I would love a league to try it out. Then see maybe it copied to highschool or smaller division colleges. Shit, get a start on it early and you can control the market/marketing for the new/retro padding and helmets.

Why? Stiff arms in the face are legal in rugby. Other than that I agree with you. It also makes people tackle properly rather than just shoulder charge in the open field which is the reason for so many missed tackles in the NFL
