To Amazon Prime or NOT to Amazon Prime

Sorry if Q, but I'm on the fence about doing the whole Amazon Prime thing. Seems like getting rid of Netflix all but pays for it, but wanted to ask the opinions of others in this Mecca of awesome knowledge called Chiefs Planet..

Is Amazon Prime really worth it over eBay when you buy, let's say, 5-7 items a month? I ask because I always do the "price+shipping" deal, so it seem like it's a wash at some level. That being said, "Prime" would ALWAYS mean two-day shipping, and that's something I hardly ever do on eBay, so it could be a deal that makes it worth it enough to buy 15-20 things a month. The whole "eliminating some of the instant gratification culture/concern" deal...

Oh, and I've heard that if you use an "edu" account it's free for six months (perhaps not a big deal over a lifetime!!), but is then like half the cost. Does anybody know if that's true? If so, and it' the son who has the "edu" account, how does "Dad" pull off that scam without having the kid able to buy pretty-much anything he's ever wanted?

Thanks in advance... Just looking for some opinions before I leap...

I followed it pretty much all day and was incredibly disappointed. That $120 40" LED TV caught my eye, so I waited for it to come on. Literally 2 seconds after it went live, I click add to cart - Sold Out. Waitlist Full. I about chucked my keyboard in frustration.

Glad I didn't bother.

If they were trying to convince people to sign up for Prime, I'd say it backfired miserably.

It would be like doing an HBO free preview weekend and then running X-Men: Last Stand on a loop with a few of Dane Cook movies throne in to fill space. So...pretty much what HBO does on free preview weekends.

If they could sell 20 or 30 thousand fire sticks in 15 minutes, hire many $120 tvs you think they could sell in 10 seconds

I haven't landed a decent black friday deal from Amazon since 2006. Everything I'm looking at is gone before I can click buy. I get better deals from Best Buy, Walmart, Target, and Gamestop when it comes to Black Friday deals.

I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon with my prime membership, but one still has to really has watch the prices. I bought a cooler and some copper mugs just yesterday.

I know that 99% of the time they have a lot better prices than EBay. I can't remember the last time I bought anything on EBay. EBay has turned into a place that caters to people who are really bad at math.

I still check both. Every now and then Ebay still has a better deal on something I need.

Agree. But I'll say one thing, if you're not going to buy "Prime" I've has some poor luck with the "Not eligible for Prime" resellers, and I really never did in eBay. It's like eBay is tougher on their resellers or something...

And I've noted that you have to be careful in Prime when you look for a "Prime" thing, a specific left-handed golf club for example, and find out that even though you checked "Prime" by the time you make your selection, you've magically been moved out of Prime. And I don't think they want to work too hard to fix that, they want to keep as much product in front of you as they can (even if their Prime options are first to be shown).

So I've lived and learned, and I only use eBay when my options on Amazon would force me to a non-Prime deal.

This is no shit.

I will never purchase a non-prime item through Amazon. I will go to their page directly and see what they are really about.

I purchased a cheap Redfield Battlezone scope through a 3rd party that was ****ed up. The seller never returned my calls or emails, so I had to go direct through Leupold/Redfield. Thank goodness they helped me out.

I honestly think that the business I purchased the scope from knew it was ****ed and dumped it.

Help me out here... I'm needing two rotors for the son's car, but I'm not sure how to verify that this would be sold a one rotor, or a pair.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ilpage_o01_s00

  • Common sense says you always replace both...
  • But title is singular...
  • And the price suggests just one rotor...

What are your thoughts, should I put two in the basket?

Anything i've wanted from Amazon black friday i've been able to purchase without issue. That said i just monitored the calender timing and made sure im on a pc minutes before the deal started. I've pretty much gotten video game and movie deals. Haven't tried for higher priced items like tvs, or cpus

If you're debating on getting Amazon Prime Friday is the day to buy. Prime will be $67 for one day only. Link
