Chiefs' Player Jevon Belcher involved in murder-suicide, shoots self at Arrowhead

An unnamed Kansas City Chiefs player has committed suicide at the team facility and authorities are on the scene, the police confirmed to ESPN on Saturday morning.

Local reports say police are operating with the belief the player fatally shot his girlfriend at a house before driving to Arrowhead Stadium and killing himself at around 8 a.m local time. The Associated Press reported the player's age to be 25.

"We can confirm that there was an incident at Arrowhead earlier this morning," the Chiefs said in a statement. "We are cooperating with authorities in their investigation."

There were no other injuries at the team facility, police said.

The Chiefs (1-10) were preparing to host the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

The NFL has told the Panthers to travel as planned to Kansas City on Saturday, the Charlotte Observer has reported, citing interim general manager Brandon Beane.

I would be incredibly surprised if there wasn't some kind of counseling and mental health program. Now the outreach part, getting people to participate and anticipating problems, may be found to be lacking. But I can't understand a professional sports team in todays age not having a program set up. I suspect the union would be involved in that as well, but that's pure speculation from me.

The talk about postponing the game - it really has to be about the players and the staff. The families will be mourning privately, the fans general reactions will be, "That's sad - what a ****ed up story." But it's completely unrealistic to expect those present and involved to prepare for a game right now.

I'll differ to their judgement, but if they ask to postpone, **** the NFL if they won't agree.

I think it's more of a underlying issue that wasn't found medically, perhaps? Again, I'm just only speculating anyways.
