I have a really serious question I need answered.

I would like a reasonable explanation of why baseball players ALL have to have something in their mouth to chew on ALL the time. It's something that just really annoys me. When they show any player at any time they are either spitting or blowing out sunflower seeds.

I don't know of any other sport that it's even comparable. Basketball, hockey, Football.

Basketball and hockey are played on a court and football requires a mouthguard but that's all I can think of . WHY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can speak on hockey only. Past the high school level, at least in Illinois, a mouth guard is not required and is rarely used past that point.

Its because its the only sport where you sit on your ass most of the game. Gets boring

Unlike the other sports it's a game played outside and primarily in warm weather, you can get cotton mouth more easily.

It's part of baseball culture. Has been for a long time. Our boys all chew the shit out of sunflower seeds in the dugout. Why do small town farmers meet at the local gas station for coffee in the morning?
