Taking off the list:

BB's Lawn BBQ

Kansas City barbeque

http://economy.kansascity.com/?q=node/2070

New Orleans has its gumbo. Philadelphia has its cheesesteaks. Boston its seafood. And Kansas City’s culinary claim to fame? Barbecue of course!

And what barbecue, around 80 operations to choose from — spicy to sweet, bare bones dive to white tablecloth, heart of the city or afternoon drive in the country.

Here is the current list of establishments in and around KC. But barbecue fans beware, call ahead first to make sure they are open.
Got changes, additions or BBQ news? Send them to Joyce Smith at jsmith@kcstar.com

I need to try Johnny's again. I got a sammich from them a while back, and it sucked. it was two pieces of plain white bread, and smothered in sauce. I like sauce, don't get me wrong, but the sauce turned the plain bread into a pink dough mess.

meat was decent though; although I was irritated about the bread so it was hard to enjoy the rest of it. I'll give it a shot again though.

I like LC's. Love the big fries. Love the burnt ends and turkey sandwich. Love the sauce. The place is a shithole and the service is the most unfriendly I've probably ever had at an eating establishment, but it's good so I keep coming back. Even though I could get shot, I've been there dozens of times and haven't had any problems yet.

The only time I ate at Arthur Bryants was the one at the casino lol. It was utter shit. I can't judge off of that location though obviously. Gotta try the real thing next time.

LC's opened a restaurant in Olathe or Overland Park a long time ago. I believe it's gone now. It was awful. Gotta have that rundown burnt out black smoker that looks like it was a set piece in Nightmare On Elm Street. Just not the same without it.

The scary thing about Wabash is they actually have gone down in quality and is still damn good...**** THIS THREAD it makes me miss home there is nothing for BBQ out here and I feel sacrilegious because of where I work (Famous Daves BTW) and it blows compared to my KC BBQ but it is better than nothing I guess....oh wait I own a smoker!

you both. Florida can't produce top grade BBQ. I'm in a BBQ wasteland. I don't understand their issue.

At least my cheater smoker can produce better tasting meat than I can buy for any amount of money around these parts.

Lol, Tulsa is pretty bad too. There's only one place I've tried down here that I've even considered eating more than once. It's a new place called Action Erection BBQ. Pretty good ribs. At least I'm closer to KC than you are though.

I know my KC BBQ and if it comes down to it I will just get me some hickory and a big ass brisket.

I think Gates gets a free pass as a de facto place for good BBQ.

I had tons of other great BBQ around town either by a home smoker/BBQer, or hole in the wall place.

Gates is severely overrated, IMO.

You should look for a place called Knotty Pine BBQ. I'm not sure if it's still there, but it's actually pretty damn good BBQ, at least it was back in the day.

Up til now I would agree with ya, but downtown Sarasota has a BBQ joint called Nancy's. The brisket it awesome and the beans are fine! Worth the trip for ya BRC. Hell, I'd meet ya there.

I would say it's the best in Fla. but that wouldn't really be saying much, would it?
