Not all courses are perfectly manicured masterpieces. I have golfed a lot of tourneys that allow at least a club back from any place on the fairway, and sometimes they extend those areas into the rough.

Some people think improvement just means closer to the hole. It doesn't. Maybe there is a bad spot on the green that cannot be repaired (not to be confused with ground under repair). Maybe there is a tree in the way. Either way, it's against the rules of Golf. There are rules by which relief can be granted. For example, a man-made object that prohibits the ability to take your stance or swing the club.

almost every shot he would move his ball. rough, fairway, etc...didn't matter. like if the ball came to rest in the fairway in a dead spot of grass that was dirt - like an old divot spot no one replaced- he would move it back to a nice chunk of grass that would prop his ball up nicely.

after my first motorcycle crash in 2003, I decided to try to appease friends and family by 'getting a new hobby' and I figured Golf would be it. I somewhat enjoyed it, but it was just too frustrating for me. Definitely a hard game. I didn't play enough, coudln't afford to play enough or take lessons to make for any sense of a consistent game / swing etc.
nearly every shot was like trying to diffuse a bomb by cutting a wire. Might work....might not. lol. But, I did see where the addiction to the game can come from. When you swing, don't even feel the ball hit the club, and either have a nice straight drive, or landing a few feet from the hold on the green from like 130+yds out. that was an awesome feeling. I just never experienced that too often lol.

So MILLIONS of people are taking two stroke penalties for moving a ball 1/4 of an inch? Hell two strokes for moving it even one inch is stupid as hell. You have to be a total anal douche to even consider such a thing.

They showed a close up on ESPN. She pretty clearly marked the ball on the side (relative to the hole) then put the ball back down on the far end of the coin away from the hole. So she actually moved the ball farther from the hole and a little to the right.
Just to clarify what happened. |

If that's the question you'd rather ask because your initial question was idiotic, you should ask it. Is that the question you'd rather ask?

i can understand the 2 stroke penalty for not putting the ball back in the right spot, if they enforced it before the next round. but the extra 2 stroke penalty is crazy. it was correct when she turned it in. And the officials should have gave her the penalty when it happened or shortly after. At the latest before she started the final round. you play completely different with a lead than you do when your behind.
And how can you let viewers enforce rules. they don't see every stroke from every player so its really unfair to those with more tv time. |

If you are doing this to one golfer, you MUST, in fairness, review every golfer in the tourney. Selective enforcement of a rule goes against the very principle you are standing on....fairness. Cow all you want about the rules.......but you cant be selective in enforcement. |
