MJD: Matt Schaub can get Raiders to Super Bowl

Maurice Jones-Drew conceded Wednesday that several teams believed he didn't have much left in the tank.

During an interview on SiriusXM's Mad Dog Sports Radio, the running back said his final choices -- among eight teams displaying interest -- came down to the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders.

MJD chose the team least likely to get him to his first playoff appearance since 2007.

One reason Jones-Drew signed a three-year, $7.5 million contract in Oakland was to return to where he grew up and play for a Raiders team he rooted for as a fan.

MJD said the Raiders are in "win-now" mode, and he believes signal-caller Matt Schaub can take them to the Super Bowl.

"You can definitely (make the Super Bowl with Matt Schaub at quarterback)," Jones-Drew said. "(Schaub) has something to prove this year. ... I know Matt Schaub is a guy who can lead us."

Of course, the other finalists on his list have quarterbacks named Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady, who have won Super Bowls.

We discussed on the "Around The League Podcast" how it was interesting to see the veteran running back choose Oakland over a place where he'd have a better chance to make the playoffs.

MJD said he eschewed a chance to join the Steelers or Patriots to return home -- the likely larger contract offer probably didn't hurt either.

Chiefs will never go to the SB again... The sooner you realize this the sooner you can move on to other things in life.

It's incredibly unlikely, but never is a long time. Of course the Chiefs having ownership who is more interested in being just good enough to fill their pockets than actually winning a championship hurts the Chiefs chances.

To be fair, it's the Chiefs. There are large stretches of time where it's necessary to watch with your eyes closed.

When I saw Cassel's profile pic on espn I had this instinctive feeling to punch him in the face.

I've never understood this argument. If the "dink and dunk" offense is so easy to run, and just about any QB can do it - it doesn't matter who you plug in there, and there are a number of teams that have had success with it...

Then why doesn't every team do it? Certainly why don't the perennial bottom dwellers run it just to have some success?

You've got to have a QB with intelligence, patience, and poise to run a "dink and dunk" offense) otherwise known as the "west coast offense") that brought 5 superbowl trophies to San Francisco. You have to have a QB that is adept at reading defenses, and the trust to change the play at the line based on what the D is presenting.

After years of listening to people bitch about Smith not throwing bombs all over the field on the niners board, now I read a ton of posts of people bitching that Kap needs to learn how to check the damn ball down, get past his first read and actually go through his progression, have patience and "manage the game" better.

I disagree that just anyone can step in and run a "dink and dunk" offense. It isn't sexy, but when done right is very effective. It sustains drives, rests the defense, controls the clock, sets up big plays after chipping away at all of the "low hanging yards" and rarely puts your defenses back up against a wall.

JOKE OF THE DAY

Q: How does Matt Schaub get the Raiders to the Super Bowl this year and every year thereafter?

A: By getting all the players on the bus and driving there!

I've had to replace three TV's because of that. Thank God it's the offseason and here's hoping I can V chip his ass out before next football season.
