First glances at several QBs we're going to give a shit about over the next four months. Feel free to set me straight.

DeShone Kizer, Notre Dame
6'4", 230 lbs
26-9 TD-INT, 59%, 2925 passing yards

I get a Cutlerian vibe from this guy. Seems to be built like a franchise QB. Powerful arm, some beautiful passes, perfect bodytype. But he is lacking an "it" factor, is he not? He's not a world-beating, overcome-the-odds, particularly spiriting QB. Looks like he could have an okay career in the NFL in which he wins nothing of consequence.

Mitch Trubisky, North Carolina
6'3", 220 lbs
30-6 TD-INT, 69%, 3748 passing yards

Well if there was one Andy Reid QB in this entire draft, it's Trubisky, isn't it? Super accurate, doesn't take too many risks with the ball, is very mentally tough and very athletic. He's a slam dunk for the Chiefs to trade up for, if he lasts to the 20s, but in a QB-starved NFL with at least 6 new head coaches looking for their QB, there's no chance he lasts to us.

Ask 5: How many QBs will go in Round 1 of 2017 NFL Draft?

One of the biggest challenges in predicting what will happen in this year's draft involves the quarterback position. Who will be the first QB off the board? That's a question we've been debating for months. However, here's a question that has me even more intrigued, especially with Tony Romo no longer a potential option for teams: How many quarterbacks will go in the first round? Will we see as few as 2? Could we see as many as 5? I reached out to 5 NFL personnel executives to get their opinion on the topic. Here are their answers.

Executive 1: 3 QBs
"I'll say 3. (Deshaun) Watson and (Mitchell) Trubisky go in some order early with a team coming back up into the late 20s to take either (Patrick) Mahomes or (Davis) Webb."

Executive 2: 4 QBs
"I'll say at least 4. I just think people will trade back into Round 1 because they're scared (of missing out)."

Executive 3: 2 QBs
"Two. Watson and Webb. I am sticking to my Webb guns. He's the second-best QB in this class. I have read the Trubisky and Mahomes buzz. Not sure if I believe it."

Executive 4: 2 QBs
"I think we're going to see 2 (QBs) go in the first -- Trubisky and Mahomes."

Executive 5: 3 QBs
"I think 3 guys will go in the first: Watson, Trubisky and Mahomes."

Summary: That's 2 votes apiece for 2 QBs and 3 QBs, and 1 vote for 4 QBs.

Conclusion: As you can see, there is very little consensus on how many quarterbacks we should expect to land in Round 1. I have 2 quarterbacks coming off the board in the first round in my latest mock draft. By the time the draft gets here, I believe we'll end up with 3 or possibly 4 quarterbacks fighting their way into the first round. The extra year on the contract for first-round picks is a big deal for teams and it makes sense for at least one of them to trade into the back end of the opening round to secure that fifth contract year.

—Dobbs went through a throwing session, and a coach at the workout texted me that he "is one of my favorite [quarterbacks] in this class." Dobbs has a legitimate chance to be a top-100 pick. NFL scouts continue to rave about his football IQ, character and work ethic.

—All eyes were on Mahomes, who impressed scouts by finishing his workout with a 78-yard toss. During the actual scripted throws, multiple scouts and coaches from the workout told me the quarterback was unimpressive. "Thrower, not a passer," "forces everything," "got some [Colin] Kaepernick to his arm" and "not sure you can teach timing and touch" were four of the texts I got back. On the flip side, everyone I spoke to from the pro day loved Mahomes' arm, athleticism and poise on the field.

—Where will Mahomes be drafted? I asked that to six executives this week, and each replied that he'll come off the board in the first round. When pressed for a destination, the executives gave Kansas City four votes and Houston two.

—A director of player personnel dropped this bombshell while talking with me this week: "I don't think that run on quarterbacks is gonna happen early. I think it happens in the 20s."

What!?

This might sound crazy, but after I digested this thought, it's really not. No team in the top five is connected to the top quarterbacks. In fact, every franchise in the top 10 that had a need at the position solidified its quarterback situation through free agency except for the Cleveland Browns, and they're drafting Myles Garrett No. 1 overall.

The 49ers, Bears, Jaguars, Jets and Bills should all look to add a quarterback at some point in this draft, but based on what this director told me, it's unlikely that happens in Round 1. The wild card, he said, is Buffalo at No. 10 overall if general manager Doug Whaley is "as in love with [Deshaun] Watson as we hear he is."

—Three teams continue to spend a lot of time and resources looking at quarterback: the New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers and Kansas City Chiefs. Each team is set at quarterback right now but will be looking for a future starter. Don't be surprised if one of them grabs a quarterback in the first two rounds.
