I had Iowa State picked to win it all in my bracket last year. This year I didn't bother but was shocked at their first round loss.
They have a really strong program now. |

Really the problem with this team was BDJ. We had the potential to be better this year, but he ended up being a team cancer and not coming anywhere close to his potential. It's a shame too because Fred said he's the most athletic player hes ever coached. We looked great the games he tried, he was almost unstoppable driving to the hoop. But he was so selfish and always complained and ended up not even playing the second half of a lot of games.
That's what Iowa State missed the most, and the players who have coming in next year who are capable of attacking aren't team cancers.

Because they've played basketball before. And it was known BDJ had issues, they hust thought they could help him like they did with a few other guys. BDJ was Fred's first transfer to not adapt.

This is a thread to discuss ISU basketball right? I thought that is the point.

Looked it up because Saul Good posted a comment about it. I didn't know that's what smoked his NBA career.
Fred Hoiberg to undergo second open heart surgery next week Link AMES, Ia. – Iowa State men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg will undergo another open heart surgery, this one on April 17 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., according to a Friday news release from the athletic department. Hoiberg knew this procedure was coming; he even mentioned it occasionally during informal sessions with reporters throughout last basketball season. The date was the only public unknown. "After my initial surgery to replace my aortic root 10 years ago, I knew that this was something that would need to be done at some point," Hoiberg said. "My valve has severe regurgitation and the time has come to get it replaced. I am hopeful that this will be my last surgery and I'm looking forward to getting this behind me." Hoiberg's NBA career ended abruptly after undergoing open heart surgery to remove an enlargement on his aortic root on June 28, 2005. He'd known since his Iowa State playing days that he had an enlarged bicuspid aortic valve, but learned a month before the 2005 surgery that it had grown to the extent that it required immediate attention. "We were lucky they found it," Hoiberg told The Des Moines Register in 2005. Later, doctors inserted a permanent pacemaker in Hoiberg's left shoulder. Last July, he had the pacemaker's batteries replaced during a procedure at Mayo. |
