First Quarter MVPs

Who are your first quarter MVPs for KC?

Offense, I'm going with Davis. Sure, there are lots of fantasy football people pissed off about JC splitting carries with him, but he has clearly stepped up and even carried the load on occasion. Runner up - Kelce.

Defense - Tamba Hali. This D lives and dies with its pass rush and the old guy still has a lot left in the tank. To all of you who say it's his last year in KC - take an anti freeze bath. Extend him and rotate Ford next year. Having 3 dominant pass rushers would be a great problem to have. Runner up - I'm not sure. Solid efforts by others.

Offense: So far Davis.

Defense: Abdullah or Houston. Houston already has 5 sacks, a forced fumble, and a sick number of pressures...

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Smith was our best CB by far last season so this isn't that big of a surprise to me.

The key is still pressure up front.

I think Poe needs some serious props and Bailey may be the most improved defensive player on the whole team.

I'll take 3 from offense, 3 from defense, and 2 from special teams.

My MVP's are as follows.

Alex Smith, Knile Davis, Travis Kelce, I don't think I even need to explain my reasoning for those right now.

Justin Houston, Dontari Poe, Tamba Hali, I also don't think I need to explain my reasoning for those guys right now, simply because they ****ing put the defense on their shoulders these last three games and dominated, even in the denver loss.

My two special teamers, Dustin Colquitt because he's so ****ing on fire right now that people near him have reportedly been going to the ER for 2nd degree burns. Guy is dynamite in the prime of his career and he's making all other punters look just ****ing silly. This guy has 4 different ****ing punting styles that he uses depending on down, distance, field position, current outcome of the game, and so forth all factored in. WHO DOES THAT? Dustin does. And he's a huge, huge, HUGE part of our success right now.

But, no punter can take all the credit for the special teams work without giving "something" for recognition to his gunners/cover men. Phillip Gaines, after this last game, beat out Junior Hemmingway for special teams MVP-Non Punter, while both have had a few bad fouls this year that hurt the field position game, if ever briefly, the two of these guys have been lightning and thunder on Kickoff and Punt coverage, but the way Phillip Gaines played on special teams punt coverage this last week, locked it in for me. The kid has some serious situational awareness going on, and he might be one of those guys who comes out of nowhere to make a solid roster spot based on his effort and awareness, like Cooper did last year.

Well, those are my 8 MVP of the first half of this season, and for good reason, its just too hard to choose one, but if I did it would end up a 3 way tie between Houston, Colquitt, and Smith for sure, but I feel right now the way that this team is playing, that there's more recognition to be had than just one individual, and this last game is almost a little scary when you see what we've done in just 3 games. People are going to start talking about how we are a "sneaky" team that will come out of nowhere to surprise you because (and I'm banking on this catchphrase over the next few weeks) the "whole" is greater than the sum of its parts. This team is really clicking right now.

Can't give it to Reid. His clock management has still been terrible and he is easily most to blame for the Tennessee loss. For coaches, I give it to Sutton for turning a skeleton crew into a decent defense this season. Offense, agree with the knile Davis choice. Defense, most improved player may go to Allen bailey.

Sums up my response pretty damn well.

I'd also tip my hat to Abdullah and how quickly it SEEMS that the OL is improving.

I'm going to throw a surpise name out here.

The obvious choices have been put out there, but the way this O-Line has come together so quickly and done yeoman's work is remarkable, and a lot of the credit for that has to go to Rodney Hudson.

He's really stepped up his game, and as the guy who makes the line adjustments before the snap, he's helped to put these guys in position to succeed.

No problems with that choice, he's the glue for that improving unit.

I'm done calling for him to move to guard so Kush can play center, leave him right where he is because he's doing just fine.

Not a bad choice with hudson. No way in hell we beat the pats like we did without the o line making the massive improvement theyve made. But for me its davis by far on o. Hes done a nice job filling some huge shoes. So much that a lot of people outside kc already recognize he and charles as the best back duo in the nfl. Knile was our glue when jamaal went down. And he and the o line ramming it up thw dolphins ass hole. May have been a crucial point in convincing andy to change the scheme up.

Defense, really hard to pick. Abdullah, smith, poe, bailey, hali, houston, no idea.
