Nah, the Hill throw is covered. The DB likely undercuts it for a pick. The Travis throw is more likely to connect, IMO.

But the West throw - jesus. The DB over top is flat-footed and doesn't seem to know that West has gotten behind him. The guy covering him got completely lost in space. That's blown coverage and an EASY 6 if Smith just keeps his head up. Awful, awful play.

No he won't. Andy doesn't have the balls to do something like that. Smith is safe and Andy likes safe now, as he knows he can coach the next 3-10 years of his life here because Chunt will never get rid of him (I'm not suggesting he should).

Season Tickets have sold well, parking is going for $40/car and the lots are full, meaning that Chunt & Co are happy. Doesn't help that the majority of STH's are just like my dad's cousins...oh they would like a SB win, but they are just as supportive & happy so long as we go 10-6 and make the playoffs each year. I feel like my annual family Christmas party is a scene from Groundhog Day after talking to them about the Chiefs.

Three man rush. Step the **** up and look downfield. Case ****ing Keenum can do that shit with no problem. Not our QB.
On their last offensive play, he had a 3 step rush, hit the back of his drop and visibly flinched for no goddamn reason. I never even saw Blaine Gabbert do that shit even at the height of his jittery mess days at Mizzou. I never thought I'd see someone stare at a rush worse than Gabbert did in his last year there.

Behold the majesty of Alex Smith.

He doesn't even stare at the rush, he simply assumes they're going to get him and stares at the goddamn ground before running sideways.

WHY!?!?!?!?!?

What the **** happened to you, man? You were playing so well for 7 weeks and then this ****ing nonsense just showed up for no reason at all. Your line is significantly better than it's EVER been here. C'mon man, that line is doing a genuinely good job of getting you time to throw.

I just...I mean...I'm at a complete loss with this guy. What in the actual **** happened to him?

The Steelers ruined him.

They knew how to get him off his game and put the blueprint out. It's been the same cover 2 with a safety/corner occasional blitz and DB coming up to help stop Hunt.

That's why Kelce said his comment about cover 2. It's an indirect shot at Alex.

Its no coincidence that Kelce has been spotted several times in public with Mahomes since he got to KC (including last night).... Kelce knows that he's what they need, and he is the guy who can elevate this team when it matters most.

Kelce might be a dumbass, but he cares about winning. A lot. He probably wants that SB just as bad as anyone on our team.

Most antiquated defense in the league and it's completely flummoxed ol' Gigabytes.

The Cover 2 is shockingly simple to beat, you just have to not be a pussy and hit those corner/wheel/flag routes that open up underneath the safeties along the sidelines. They will ALWAYS be there.

This is right, but Alex hates throwing outside the hash marks which is exactly why the cover 2 works against him. Alex wants short over the middle throws all game long and a cover 2 takes that stuff away.

I wrote this and posted it in the Kareem Hunt thread in a response to what is wrong with Hunt...

Figured it was more relevant here, I'm guessing many will agree.

Yes, the Chiefs were living off extremely lucky and opportunistic take-aways the last few seasons.

With a team rushing 4 and playing cover 2, Alex will feel phantom pressure and has a bad habit of leaving the pocket. When he does this, his eyes are no longer looking downfield and this is why you see SO MANY gifs of WIDE OPEN Receivers and Alex not even looking near them.

If Alex could have more poise in the pocket, giving these WR's enough time to reach their destination, he may see more success throwing down field.

That said; even with shitty pocket presence, there are still opportunities for a QB to succeed.

Alex leaving the pocket premature still could be an advantage by using his legs to manipulate those zone coverage players into stepping up while the QB tosses it to a WR who is now left uncovered. Alex was doing this the first few games of this season, but for some reason has quit keeping his eyes down field (something Mahomes excels in).

Now, coming back to the quoted text about the run game:

Alex's limitations in the passing game severely cramp the running game because that is the main focus of the opponents defense. Any team that has watched the Chiefs struggle on film knows that you take away the run, study the trick play formations, and force Alex Smith to beat you deep (which he cannot).

I know, I know... real life is not Madden.... but what happens in Madden when you pick a running play, and no matter how awesome your RB is, he still gets creamed in the backfield because the defense knew the predictable play call and picked the perfect defense for it?
This is what is happening to Hunt.

He runs hard and sheds a lot of tackles, but he can't make 4-5 guys miss right as he gets the ball. Only Barry Sanders was good enough to do that.

Hunt has NOT hit a "Rookie wall" <-- one of the dumbest things people say.
It's simply that the opponents have figured out a way to stop the Chiefs offense (thanks Steelers) and the Chiefs cannot adjust due to the limitations of Alex Smith.

Ok, nobody will read that or care... but I feel better now.

These GIFs are why I just refuse to blame Andy Reid for the offensive struggles. Almost every play, we are seeing at least one guy get open. Often wide open. It's not like the play designs aren't doing what they are supposed to.

I'd like to watch the next Chiefs game with that skycam TNF camera angle. Maybe one day we'll have the option for each game to choose the camera we want to see from.

I really wonder what coaches are thinking when they review tape after a game and see how their play designs are working fine a lot of times, then the QB is farting around. I know I wouldn't stand for it.

That is simply amazing to me. They are supposed to be smarter than us. I hear people say that if Mahomes was better then he would be in there. Bullshit, Andy is flat out wrong on this one. Mahomes was better from day one and the players know it. **** Andy until he does the right thing. Show me your rings Walrus since you are always right. **** him.

Nagy would have him in there if it was up to him, I am certain. This organization....They must have promised Alexis's pussy ass that they would not bench him like in SF, no matter what. That statement from Veach right After Mahomes had the sideline going crazy in the last preseason reeked of BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!
