Arnold Schwarzenegger, 70, 'undergoes emergency open-heart surgery'

Arnold Schwarzenegger, 70, 'undergoes emergency open-heart surgery'

Terminator star Arnold Schwarzenegger has undergone emergency open-heart surgery, according to US reports.

The 70-year-old actor had the medical procedure on Thursday, according to TMZ.

Schwarzenegger was scheduled to have a catheter valve replacement and developed complications, reports said.

The procedure usually means the patient can avoid having open-heart surgery.

Doctors at Cedars-Sinai hospital in LA reportedly decided an emergency open-heart operation was needed and Schwarzenegger was in surgery for several hours.

The former governor of California is believed to be in a stable condition.

I'd suppose they are both pretty awful for your body in the long run, no?

As a guy that used to pound those down on the reg back in the day, all I can say is that I never went in for a heart procedure when I was 39 (or anytime since) like Ahhnold did when he was 39....

True. We're all wired differently, for sure.

His stogie habit likely didn't help his cause much either.

It’s genetic. His family has had a valve problem through each generation and he had to get it fixed initially in 1997. Here’s his interview discussing it.
