The country music repository thread

I've considered doing this for a long time but often figured I was the only one that cared. Kyle DeLexus' thread has shown me that's not the case.

If you have an appreciation for country music feel free to use this as a place to post videos, news, personal favorites lists, concert experiences and anything else country related. Old or new doesn't matter. Just have fun with it and ignore the haters.

Naturally I have to post the greatest country song of all time as a starter.

I'm pretty sure I read it, but I'll go back again after I catch my breath from kicking Tim McGraw in the balls.

2)[rant] And, from the You've Got To Be ****ing Kidding Me Dept: Tim McGraw, with something like "Truck Yeah". Is that the title? I don't know. I don't really want to know. The initial guitar riff was kind of interesting, then things went downhill from there, in a hurry.

It had, like too goddamn many songs recently, the obligatory truck reference as well as a line something like, "tell the DJ to PLAY SOME COUNTRY!". WTF. This is a song more suited to an assclown like Luke Bryan. If your country song has to repeatedly beat us in the head with I'M COUNTRY AND I'M LEGIT well, it's not. Embarrassing. What's wrong, maybe, with making a good song that happens to be country? I think ol' Tim has jumped the shark, and the gator, and all the catfish too.

I might post Pontoon if no one else does but I won't post that McGraw song because **** that song, that's why.[/rant]

That was kind of fun. I feel better.

Oh, and I like that Suzy Bogguss song above. I'd forgotten about it.
Man I'm right there with you on "Truck Yeah." It may indeed be the worst song I've ever heard. Worse than "Achey Breaky Heart" kind of bad. I'm actually embarrassed to play it... but I never let my personal tastes or feelings rule what we play so.... ugh. I was thinking about posting it and labeling it as a new worst song ever. I've never been much of a McGraw fan although I do like a few of his songs but man you're right..... he's jumped off the deep end now. I just pray it doesn't become a bonafide hit.

Oh and Mosbonian I can't rep you again right now for the Ed Bruce so REP here. It's funny, I was just listening to "My First Taste of Texas" a couple nights ago.

You know, if he'd just called it "**** Yeah", I might respect that.

I've wondered, sometimes, if you had to bite your tongue to the point of bleeding when playing some of the dreck out there...

I bite my tongue a lot. Actually my partner and I stop biting our tongues from time to time and just say what we think and although that can be dangerous it's funny seeing the generally positive response that gets. People seem to appreciate us being real at least even if they disagree with our takes. For instance it's a well know thing that my partner loathes Taylor Swift and a lot of people agree with her and sometimes people will request a Taylor song just to mess with her haha.

I get my digs in on the current state of the genre as a whole by saying things coming out of the new Alan Jackson song or others that are more traditional with things like "That's Alan Jackson... he sings what we call country music for those of us unfamiliar with the idea and/or under 20 years old."

That would be great. I've seen Don Williams twice. He's such a stud and the best part is he doesn't even have to try.

All it takes to despise Taylor Swift is to hear her sing outside the studio. Hell, there are better singers than her in my daughters HS Ensemble.

I know some people will stone me for saying this, but to me the true watering down of Country Music started with Garth Brooks. His first couple of albums were great but after that I just lost interest.

And were it not for The Statlers, George Strait and Alan Jackson I might have abandoned Country Music.

I'm with you on all accounts. I respect that people like Garth and I understand he did a lot to advance the popularity of the genre. Personally I never liked anything album-wise after his first. "Much Too Young (To Feel This Damn Old)" was a great lead single. There were a couple more good singles on that album. Once "Friends In Low Places" hit it was over though for me. Again no disrespect for those who love that and him.

I don't think he's a good singer at all vocally and I'm just not into "party country" much.

I also blame Shania Twain for a large part of the crappy pop country that rules the day now. She was one of the first to really take worthless lyrics and over-produced shit to the top of the charts without even trying to sound country.

All imo of course.

I've always thought this was just a fantastic under-rated song by a guy who was better known for a few of his others.

Mel McDaniel "I Call It Love"
