****Official 2014 STL Cardinals thread ****

2011 WS Championship
2012 one win from another WS
2013 two wins from another WS title
2014?
  • This is a franchise that has made the postseason 10 times in the last 14 seasons.
  • Reached three World Series in the last decade, and won as many championships (two) the past eight seasons as it did from 1965 to 2005.
  • Our new Manager has more post season experience than any other manager in baseball, except the Giants manager.
  • Three million attendance? Take it to the bank.
  • 60 post season wins since 2004. 20+ wins more than any other team.
  • Only one of the last 14 seasons has been a losing one.

I don't think that is nitpicky. That's a substantial weakness. Gaby Sanchez would be a perfect target. He straight up murders LHP .333/.448/.539 (179 wRC). You can platoon him with Adams at first, but that puts some stress on Craig, as it offers him fewer chances to rest his legs while keeping his bat in the lineup.

Still, I think that's the move.
I've always liked Sanchez. Would be a good move.

You could also try a rf who could hit lhp, allowing Craig to play 1b more. I dunno who's out there though.

Carpenter will be in the front office

ST. LOUIS • Cardinals starter and the winningest pitcher in the club's postseason history Chris Carpenter will join the club's front office in a role that is still in the process of being defined.

Carpenter and general manager John Mozeliak had a meeting earlier this month to discuss a post-retirement role for the pitcher.

Mozeliak announced this morning that they came to an agreement on a position, one that would not be in uniform. Carpenter is interested in learning about various aspects of the front office and could be involved in the scouting process, Mozeliak said. The details and the title of the job are being written by him now.
Mozeliak called Carpenter "unofficially onboard."

He referenced the i's that need dots and the t's that need crosses -- including a job title -- before Carpenter's next employment can be formally announced.

Carpenter will have a role in spring training with the major-league club. He will not be in Jupiter, Fla., for the entire stretch.

Mozeliak said that Carpenter will be enrolled in the spring program that the Cardinals have for many of their young scouts. Mozeliak envisions a way for Carpenter to get experience at several levels of scouting. That is similar to what former closer Ryan Franklin did before moving into a special assistant to the general manager role.

What do you guys think of Larussa going into the HOF with a blank cap? Seems to have pissed some off. No biggie to me.

So reading some Cardinal stuff online got me thinking, apparently even with bringing in Peralta, we have quite a bit of cap space and some young pitching to spare (potentially).

If the right deal/player were to come along, a move could be made.

What player/move could come along that would make you think twice about this? Who would you make a move for?
