Hell, I'd argue they've become more relevant and less PC over the last 5 years...

Over the last 2 or 3 years, yes. Whichever year introduced PC Principal seems almost like fresh start for them. The years before that were getting stale. At least for me. These last couple of seasons have been awesome.

South Park's best episodes were one-offs with no internal continuity. With the strict serial format, they often end up driving a joke into the ground.

I like the continuity, but I do long for the good ol days of week to week shinanigans. I would like to see them go back to it, and maybe only stringing together a few shows at a time, and not always doing it. I do still think they're doing a great job though, so I still watch religiously.

I actually like the serial format. The build up to Leslie was hilarious. The PC Principal line started to get stale, but Leslie redeemed it. The election coverage of giant douche and turd sandwich was awesome. The Denmark troll hunters have been pretty funny. And seeing Cartman and Butters' progression this season has been funny as hell. The gentrification of South Park and member berries were also good. None of these are bits that would be nearly as entertaining in a one-off format.
Only trolls love one-offs

Absolutely.
Like I said, just adhere less stringently to it. You can insert a couple of one-offs in there and still be fine. Archer has a tendency to do that pretty well by just inserting some kind of crazy-ass plot device that takes them out of the 'sequence' for a week. Or hell, just follow the Simpsons Treehouse of Horror technique - nothing that happens actually happens. South Park could easily have done that for Halloweeen and the election.

After Kyle's comments in this weeks episode I think we'll see more of the older format next season. What ever you guys do, don't eat the memberies

Is it just me that thinks this season is kind of a jumbled mess of crap? Last season with pc principal those episodes mostly stood on their own (best season ever!!)...these last two or three episodes kind of suck. The joke about trolling, the reason people do it, the Danish, were funny at first but now it's worn super thin. Cartman same story. But at least the member berries will never get old.

But damn I'm tired of the memberberries thing; it just doesn't make any sense and it's been a theme of the entire season. It's the kind of space-filler that I would expect from Family Guy.
