Will new Google Fi service be avilable on the Nexus 5?

I saw that Google just announced their new cell service. I currently have 2 lines on T-Mobile with unlimited data, however, I usually only use 4g/mo. on the 2 phones. After my T-mobile discount the price will be about the same.

The advantage might be that I could use the Sprint network or Wifi calling if T-Mobile has bed service in the area. T-Mobile generally serves metropolitan areas and Interstate HWY Corridors well. There service in rural areas is horrible.

I am also not clear on how they will keep your number in the cloud. Does that mean I can't use my old number?

It is currently available for the Nexus 6. Does the Nexus 5 hardware allow future use?

We're beginning Project Fi's Early Access Program to invite people to sign up for the service. Project Fi will be available on the Nexus 6, which we developed with Motorola and is the first smartphone that supports the hardware and software to work with our service. If you live where we have coverage in the U.S., request an invite at fi.google.com to get started.
Sounds like no for the 5.

Great for the 10 cities that have it. Sucks for the rest.

I think it is available in all over the country, not just 10 markets.

I also read that it is Sprint + T Mobile. The phone is supposed to find the stronger of the 2 signals and use it. They are the 2 weakest networks, however, combined it might make for a stronger one. The 2 companies use different technologies so 2 radios might be required on the phone.

I would look at switching

EXCEPT for the fact that our building is totally closed off to external cell signal and the only repeaters/transmitters in the building belong to ATT

I think CDMA/GSM is becoming a thing of the past now with LTE.

You can unlock a Verizon phone now and run it on AT&T. Vice-versa.

The only issue you may encounter is iPhones use Nano-SIMs.

I am sure they will let you break the cost out into a monthly plan to get it cheaper. That is one thing that Americans suck at, is cell phone plan knowledge. You pay the price one way or another. No(alright shitty phones are free) phone is free or discounted.

There is no reason for any phone to cost that much. Shit, I purchased a very high end tablet for less.

There's a rumor that Google is going to come out with another version of the Nexus 5 later this year that will return to typical Nexus pricing and specs ($350 give or take). The Nexus 6 has been a flop.

I would be interested in that. I passed on the N6 and still have my N5. When this story came out I checked Swappa and noticed that a Used Mint N6 is going for $460.

Every time I read about the new latest handset I check it out and realize that my N5 is still dam fast and does what I want.
