Pat Tillman died 166 months ago

Friends, it's been 166 months since Pat Tillman lost his life. I was thinking about him watching the Olympics and thinking about how blessed we are to be Americans, how much I value the opinions and perspectives of you folks at Chiefsplanet.com, and how there are certain things that most of us can agree on, including that Pat Tillman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Tillman) was pretty awesome. It also seemed to me that it would be worthwhile to bring him up because there are some youngsters around who may not realize that there was a NFL player who loved his fellow Americans enough to go to fight in a war that he also knew may not have been justified. I mention this because there are so many folks on this board that I admire and who may not realize that, simply because we have differing opinions about a small number of political issues! Anyway, if you are blessed to have some money to donate to a worthy cause, it looks to me that the Pat Tillman Foundation is trustworthy, as they have a 4 out of 4 rating with CharityNavigator (https://www.charitynavigator.org/ind...ry&orgid=13188) .

I don't care how he might have voted had he remained alive.

That man left a million dollar career with fame and fortune for a calling to serve his country as a Ranger. That's no small thing. His life was no more or less valuable than any other person who leaves their home to do the same, but I definitely still hold respect for what he did.

The circumstances of his death don't really matter and his politics don't affect my opinion of his service. He's not someone that should be shit on.

It's quite possible Pat was executed by his own troops. Supposedly he took "friendly fire" after running up a ridge, but the ballistics report showed the bullets (from our troops) were fired in very close proximity to his head. It also was revealed his troop mates didn't like him.

We will never know how he died. "Fog of war" and all that. Suffice it to say I'm sure glad I never signed up for that dumb war. I was surprised he did.

Google it. You'll find unlimited resources addressing this.
So you got nothing credible. Got it.

Unless being an atheist is your idea of a rabid left winger. Plenty of conservatives are atheists. Not that his political leanings matter at all. He made a choice to serve his country and paid the ultimate price.

Link? It doesn't sound like from first hand accounts by at least one of the shooters that you are remotely accurate.

I went to ASU during the time he was there and knew some of the football and basketball players well, so we ran in some of the same circles. A rabid Libertarian, certainly in no way a rabid Liberal. Hated big government, no matter which party happened to be running it. Very deep dude. Used to climb 60ft light poles at Sun Angel Stadium (track & field stadium next to Sun Devil Stadium) with books and just sit on top of the pole alone and read.

He became very disillusioned in Afghanistan. First, the Army wanted to use him as a marketing tool via publicity tours, but he just wanted to defend our country in combat, so he said no. Went there with good, patriotic intentions only to find that he was spending the majority of his time guarding poppy fields for the CIA. And then the entire cover-up after his death. Kudos for his family for being brave and calling bullshit on the scumbag Army higher-ups in charge at the time.

He's right. It was friendly fire. The army tried to cover it up, but his brother Kevin-who was assigned to, and fighting in the same battalion with him when Pat was killed- wouldn't have it.

Probably because Pat grew to hate the Bush administration because he realized after he enlisted that the war was bullshit. His contempt was over policy though, not over party.

Most people in the military, especially combat troops have complaints with policy when it comes to war. Especially ROE restrictions that cost lives.

That's nothing new and has occurred in every single war.

Obviously.

I've wondered how Pat would've responded to the whole not standing for the anthem issue. Not going to presume his stance. He might have viewed it as, it's a free country, people fight for your right to legally express yourself however you want to, or he might have been extremely offended. But I'll tell you one thing, if I were the type of person inclined to sit during the anthem (I'm certainly not), I'd think long and hard about it before I'd do it in front of Pat Tillman. He had a really intense edge to him. I'd imagine it would have been pretty frightening to have that edge directed at you.
