Homegroup / Networking question.

OK, I'm stumped here.

Our office pc's have been networked for 14 years, no issues. Our business files are assessable by all pc's in the work group. File sharing is enacted, never had a problem until This past Monday. All of the work group pc's can not open a shared file now.

Anti virus & malwarebytes found nothing.

No new updates to change anything.

What gives?

Can you tell us a little bit more about your network design so we can throw some quick troubleshooting ideas at ya?

Are you receiving some sort of error message.

Did someone rename a directory or something simple like that?

All 3 pc's are running through a hub, that runs off of the modem. The 2 work station PC's just share 1 folder that has about 25 files in the main pc ( server ).

Each pc can access any of the files, but the templates can only be brought up as a read only or open as a copy where as before they were not. They use to be able to open a file, make the order and save as with in another folder in the server. Now they must open a copy, edit it to produce an order, save it on their own pc, then send it as an email attachment to the main one.

We have no clue as to what has happened ?

14 + years each pc could access any of the files & templates within this folder. We use to be able to open a template, edit it to make an order and save as is within another folder in the server. When we they try to do it as we had for 14+ years.... it tells us we do not have authorization to do this, contact the administrator.

Again, nothing has changed in our setup, yet something has happened somehow?

We have no clue as to what has happened ?

Well something obviously changed in your setup. I know you don't think so, but it did. Embrace that idea and figure it out. I'd start with the server machine. Check the permissions of the folders you're sharing. Right-click on the folder, click on Properties, and find the Security tab. Make sure your permissions are correct. Check the IP addresses of all the machines and make sure they're connected properly and on the same network. Reboot all the devices, modem, router, HUB, PCs. Remove and reshare the network folder.
