Boy Scouts Will Admit Girls, Allow Them to Earn Eagle Scout Rank

The Boy Scouts of America announced Wednesday that girls will soon be allowed to become Cub Scouts and to earn the coveted rank of Eagle Scout, the organization’s highest honor.

"We believe it is critical to evolve how our programs meet the needs of families interested in positive and lifelong experiences for their children," said Michael Surbaugh, chief executive of the Boy Scouts.

The scouting board of directors voted unanimously to make the historic change in an organization that has been primarily for boys since its founding more than 100 years ago.

True... but, I've talked with guys that are familiar with the co-ed scout programs in Europe. And, I know that they've told me they never expereinced what it appears my boys are enjoying with Scouts in the states.

So, yeah... let's do something that possibly changes things because this will surely help the declining membership numbers. It's not that there are 50 other things for boys ages 12-17 to do now, compared to 40 years ago. Yes, adding girls to the mix is a solid plan.

It's still ok for some things to be for boys and others for girls.

Do people still think this has something to do with letting girls in? It sounds more to me like they are going broke defending lawsuits relating to sexual abuse that go back many years, way before they allowed girls in.
