Trading Eric Berry

I think it might be time to evaluate what we could net in a trade for Eric Berry.

The Chiefs will probably be happy to part with Berry and his likely $9m/year contract demands if they can replace him with someone cheaper who does his job just as well in Ron Parker.

If we were to trade Eric Berry for a draft pick, what do you think he would net? I believe he could net a 2nd rounder + another pick.

If we were to trade Berry for a player, what do you think he would net?

I think he could net us a very productive, Pro Bowl caliber WR that a team is looking to move away from.

The obvious candidates, to my mind, are Pierre Garcon, Marques Colston, and of course Vincent Jackson.

Keep in mind that Eric Berry is 25.

Garcon is 28 years old, and look at these stats over the past year and a half: 156 receptions for over 1,800 yards. He's the kind of smart route-runner that Alex Smith loves throwing to. The Redskins might not be interested in paying him after having to pay DeSean Jackson (just a guess).

Colston is 31, so I like that idea less... Over the past year and a half, he's had 109 receptions the past year and a half for over 1,300 yards.

Vincent Jackson is 31 and the most expensive of the bunch, but he's had 120 receptions over the past year and a half for nearly 1,800 yards.

I don't like the return on any of those guys, I'd rather keep Berry. Are there better ones you can think of?

We haven't moved in the Draft since 2011. I've had the "we can totally move around in the draft!" line of thinking conditioned out of me.
We haven't seen Dorsey move around because he hasn't had the ammo. Regardless, I think his drafts have been very, very good.

I can't wait to see what kind of talent he adds with eleven picks.

With Dorsey at the helm, there is no such thing as too many picks.

Or you could ago Berry to a backloaded contract like Earl Thomas. He turns 26 next month.

Give him an Earl Thomas like contract with first 2 years being $7.3 million. Cut him after 2 years in 2017.

He'd be with another team the season he turns 30. Gives us time to get a replacement and still use him for much cheaper than what we gave him this year.

The signing bonus attached to a contract like that would mean you would take a huge cap hit when you cut him. Agents aren't stupid.
