Haven't had a console since the early 00's, bought a ps4 in July, zero regrets. No experience with Xboxes of any model so no comment there.

Honestly it's apple and oranges if you have no history with them. I've always been Xbox up until the release of this generation. And I didn't want to spend the extra $100 so I went with the ps4. Had it about a month and sold it on Craigslist and bought the Xbox one. I just prefer the setup of everything on Xbox. And also I'm a big fan of the halo and gears of war series and am looking forward to new releases of them.

i was soured on the Xbox after i went through 3 of them in a period of probably 12-16 months with the RRoD. I had a replacement warranty I bought for each of them for like $30 so I had a brand new one each time...but after I got the final 3rd one, i sold it to a one of my wifes friends at work.
I'm sure they've fixed the issue, but for me personally, I'd never buy another Xbox console. That many problems in that short amount of time with something that expensive is unacceptable. My Ps3 has ran like a champ since then (2007/2008 i think). I bet its only locked up maybe less than 5 times. Love it.

Don't know what the age spread on your kids is Dane but my boys are 16,11, and 9. They have both the XB1 and PS4. It used to be the teenager played mainly XB and the little boys played PS4 but lately, with games like Destiny, the teen is also playing PS4 more. Seems like some of the hot games are for PS, some for XB.
(Warning: I've got a Wii in the back of the video cabinet that hasn't been touched since shortly after they got it last Christmas. 8 and under kids only for that thing.)

I haven't been playing games for about 5 years, but went ahead and purchased a XB1 because of the connect. I think my 2 and 4 year olds will like the dance game. Great black friday deal from microsoft. I ended up gettting Kinect, an extra controller, Dance Central Spotlight, Ryse, and the Kinect Sports game for $385.61 after taxes.

It's so easy for her that she's begun making instructional videos that will be posted on YouTube soon. I bought her a capture card and broadcast headset with a microphone, and she plays and describes tricks and secrets. It's a trip. |

If you buy an XB1 you're inviting Bill Gates into your home and allowing him to watch your family. I'm convinced that mic never shuts off and the kinect feature is always watching.

I wasn't planning to get the Kinect because the Dance Party games are available for Wii U. |

My $.02 from observing my kids is that XB has more of the shoot 'em up make 'em dead games and PS has more of the adventure/fantasy/thinking games. Litle Big Planet 3 just came out, that's good for many hours. Destiny is cool. Crew is coming out. The latter two MAY be more boy oriented I don't know but from what I've seen PS has the broader selection of non-violent games.
