Let's talk about signing Ndamukong Suh

There is almost nothing to talk about regarding Chiefs football right now, so let's talk about a madden level hypothetical that could improve this team.

This teams ONLY chance at a title with Alex Smith is to build a historic defense. This much is certain. No arguments? Cool, let us continue.

Sign Ndamukong Suh.

"What, this idea is beyond silly. Get a grip. Have you seen our cap situation and the fact that we need to give new deals to Hudson and Houston this offseason and then have money for Poe next year..."

But let's talk about how to do it...

1) Bowe gets cut as a post June 1st designation, saving us 9.5 million against the cap. I hate to see the guy go on to have a couple really strong years elsewhere, but he simply isn't cost effective here. I know that's due to Alex Smith, but he's not going anywhere the next 2 years...so it's time to build around his strengths.

2) Cut the dead weight. Avery, Fasano, Devito, Mays and Jenkins. This group of suck totally a cap savings of about 14 million.

3) Cut Hali and bring him back on a cheap deal he has publicly stated he wants. Something around 3-4 million per on a 2-3 year deal. This move saves us between 6-7 million per year.

4) place Eric Berry on the NFI list. If I'm reading this correctly, that saves the team about 8 million in cap space

5) Trade Chase Daniel for a 3-5th round pick. Lots of teams need a quarterback and Chase has had great coaching and has shown the ability to beat good teams when given the opportunity to play...even on a full team of backups. This move saves the team 3.8 million in cap space.

That gives the team over 40 million to spend.

Give Houston a deal that makes him the top paid OLB in football. Currently that's Clay Mattews at 5 years 66 million. Go ahead and bump that up to 5/70 for Justin or make it a 6 year deal for a little under 90 ...with about 10% of that coming from incentives. This eats up around 10-15 million in cap space for 2015. depending on how it's structured.

Give Hudson a deal that's top ten for his position...slightly less than 5/yr. something like 6 years 28 million with 10 guaranteed. Structured so it doesn't hit the cap hard the first 2 years. I think we can make it happen where he doesn't hit the cap for more than 4 million each of the first 2 years.

Give Suh a deal similar to what we give Houston. Something like 6/90. Half guaranteed equally dispersed. Around 12-15 goes to year 1 cap.

Bring back Ron Parker on a cheap deal to keep the elite speed in the deep secondary...I know a lot of you don't like him, but his speed back there was a big reason our pass defense was so successful.

Suh (Catapano as reserve)
Poe (Fangupu or Walker as backup)
Bailey (Jaye Howard as the backup)

Houston (Martin or draft pick as backup)
Draft pick
DJ (Mauga as backup)
Hali/Ford

Smith
Gaines
Flemming
Abdullah
Parker

That would have a chance at being the leagues top defense and one that could really help Alex Smith win games by adding talent through the draft to help bolster the playmaking ability of the offense with our 11 draft picks we will have for the upcoming draft being used on offense and as guys to add explosiveness to the defense.

In this situation, we add a monster defensive player that has DMVP potential to an already extremely disruptive unit and we literally lose nothing.

None of the guys we lose impacted 2014 and adding Suh moves this defense into the scary category for opposing offenses.

How would teams block those guys?

Houston REQUIRES a double team
Suh REQUIRES a double team
Poe REQUIRES a double team

Bailey?
DJ?
The ILB we will draft?
Ford?
Hali?

I mean, really...I know it's a pipe dream...but that defense would annihilate teams blocking schemes and quarterbacks.

I think we could win a title with a defense like that and this offense coming together...even with Alex Smiths limitations.

Also, I know Sean Smith is playing really well, but with a front 7 like that, we can find cheaper options at corner if he wants the brink struck pulled up to his house.

There are always decent corners out there...

We have 5 million to rollover from 2014. Maybe more depending on how much we are credited for Eric Berrys absence due to illness.

There is enough money if the hard cuts are made.
While true, I think Suh is going to ask for $14 million avg. is DL not one of the strong points of the team? Yes rush D was a big problem, but I think that is bc our ILB's were so bad.

I would love Suh, but I think that I'd rather spend that money towards a WR (if possible) or OL.

I think Sean Smith is going to be key this offseason. I want to use any money we have on him and Houston. 2 of the best players at their position this year.

I do agree that we've got to get rid of some trash this spring.

That means you have to shell out for guys like Justin Houston and need a guy like Suh in addition to signing.. well, whomever would want to get pummeled by linebackers because the Chiefs only pass five yards through the air at a time.

Having a punter that's one of the highest paid in the league is a luxury. What he brings to the table is insignificant.
Having a punter like Colquitt is a HUGE boon to a devastating Defense.....and a shitty offense.

I have no interest in signing any receiver to a significant deal this offseason.

Maclin and Cobb are gonna want big money.

We have Alex Smith at QB.

We can draft 2 and have them for a few years on the cheap.

Guys like Suh don't hit free agency very often...and he would absolutely take the defense to another level.

What makes this thread so absurd is that both Suh and Houston will receive contracts close to 100 million. With that said, there's only two options:

1. We somehow cheat the salary cap and sign both.
or,
2. We sign Suh while letting Houston go at near the same price.

I'm not sure which one is crazier.

I think the Raiders are gonna massively overpay Suh. Like $15 million avg kind of overpay.

I really don't understand investing a lot into a position that A. Smith isn't going to throw to.

I would actually go after another Huge TE, the best cheap vet WRs possible, and use the rest to do what Boss is talking about and build a D that scares the shit out of people.
Then ride JC and Knile into the grave.
If this team did that, they could beat any team in the league.

Actually, guys like Suh hit free agency almost every year. Albert Haynesworth's skill set was very similar to Suh's, as was his team crippling contract. Mario Williams a couple of years ago was the same type of "can't miss" FA that was going to make 100 million.

I'd say Cleveland, St. Louis and maybe Buffalo.

But none of those franchises would offer more than a 5th for him... And even then, that's probably highballing what they'd be willing to trade.
