Who stood out in tonight's game?

I wasn't able to watch it, but I heard about Maclin. About time we have a player that won't take any shit. How did Tyreek do? Who else stood out? Thanks.

To me, the most impressive guy was Chris Conley.

He was just abusing Trumaine Johnson.

Agreed about Johnson. I kept thinking to myself "This is what the Rams got for $14 million?".

Yea I think it was overlooked who he was going up against because Johnson isn't a relatively big name (at least for a Franchise player), but that was a good matchup for us to get an idea of what to expect from Conley.

Alt, Grunhard, Shields and Szott were an outstanding nucleus.

The 95, 96 and 97 lines were particularly strong, especially when Glenn Parker was added.

Their downfall was they always seemed to struggle against Denver's pass rush.

Those lines weren't as strong as Vermeil's but they were well above average and we were pretty spoiled to have that good of line play for over a decade, really.

Yes and no.

You like Conley going up against a good CB sure. But Johnson's a fine skills matchup for Conley.

Johnson's a big, physical corner just like Smith. He's a guy that wants to get into your body and use length and strength to neutralize you. He's also a very very good situational CB; extremely smart, positionally sound player. He's not going to take a lot of risks, he's not going to make a lot of amazing plays. he's a damn sound player who's going to be where he's supposed to be most times.

What he isn't, however, is a premium athlete. So when you match Conley up on him, he's going to do a nice job of reading Conley's routes but he isn't quite athletic enough to drive in front of them. And since Conley is such a long, relatively strong WR, Johnson will have trouble knocking him off or coming through him to make a play on the ball.

You'd rather see Conley succeed than fail, for sure. But I think Conley's weaknesses match up nicely against Johnson in that Johnson's strengths aren't exactly going to expose them.

Running Back By Committee. Blech. It was also meaningless come playoff time.

They struggled against any team with a pass rush and their running game was nothing special in the playoffs, either.

So spoiled that it was 22 years between playoff wins.

Judging from what I've seen in 1 on 1's and camp reports, Conley has learned how to use his size/body to his advantage. Against the smaller and more athletic corners, I think that will come into play more.

Bottom line is, as the #2, he's not often going to go up against corners much better than Johnson.

With all that said, I'm certainly glad the Chiefs didn't shell out $14 million for Johnson when he'd have to face the likes of Keenan Allen, DeMarious Thomas and Amari Cooper twice each season.

Yeah, it wasn't because of the line, though.

Marty's offensive failures were never having enough WRs and not having the QB.

When he came along at the end of the decade, Derrick Alexander looked like Randy ****ing Moss in comparison to the WRs Marty was trotting out in the 90s.

DL Coaching

If the DL play doesn't improve when can we start to blame Britt Reid.

Yea, because he wasn't coaching that same group last year without the bug title.

If you're going to give him shit for that, you better give him credit for how Jones, Williams, Nunez-Roches and some of our other backups have looked.
