Game of Thrones (spoiler-free zone)

A few have suggested it, might as well test the waters. The idea is to give people who haven't read the books a safe place to talk about the show.

A few quick ground rules:
  • No Spoilers!!!!! for upcoming episodes.
  • Larger Song of Ice and Fire discussion should be limited to the other thread although I think a tiny bit of book delving to fill in holes should be okay (example of this would be talking about Catelyn and her treatment of the wolves in the novel, which was alluded to on TV but never really made clear...)
  • Everything that happened that week is fair game once an episode airs. So if you don't watch on Sunday night, I'd stay outta here until you do...

I don't remember them being CGI like they were on Sunday. Thats whats confusing me I guess. It was clearly a human actor.
In that opener, you only saw the silhouette. It wasn't up close enough to need the CGI. It was basically just a humanoid figure in a cloak. That being said: there are the wights (zombies reanimated after dying) and the White Walkers which are the actual mummified sentient "others."

Confused me as well, and I've read the books. I think it's intentionally vague. Best guess is that Theon's men sold him out for their freedom. I know why Wonterfell is raised in the books, but I don't want to spoilder it.

I am in the process of finishing the second book. Will I know why it was raised by the end or will I have to get into the third one?

You'll find out at the end of book two. The Winterfell part is different in a lot of ways in the book than the on the show. It is set up differently enough that even book readers are unsure exactly what happened at Winterfell on the show.

George Bush's head on a pike! LOL....

There's one hell of a dragon egg hidden in Game of Thrones season one. Turns out one of the many heads on a spike decorating King's Landing belonged to ex-president George Bush.

If you keep your eyes peeled when King Joffrey takes Sansa Stark to gaze upon the spiked head of her dead father around 12 minutes in, you'll notice that one of the heads looks slightly familiar. Show creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss explained in their DVD commentary (from Season 1, episode 10) that the decapitated head is actually George Bush. This was discovered by redditor SidIncognito.

"The last head on the left is George Bush. George Bush's head appears in a couple of beheading scenes. It's not a choice, it's not a political statement. We just had to use whatever head we had around."

Update: We received a statement from HBO:

We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste. We made this clear to the executive producers of the series who apologized immediately for this inadvertent careless mistake. We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production.

And the producers, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, also issued a statement:

What happened was this: we use a lot of prosthetic body parts on the show: heads, arms, etc. We can't afford to have these all made from scratch, especially in scenes where we need a lot of them, so we rent them in bulk. After the scene was already shot, someone pointed out that one of the heads looked like George W. Bush.

In the DVD commentary, we mentioned this, though we should not have. We meant no disrespect to the former President and apologize if anything we said or did suggested otherwise.

I'm not much of a medieval fantasy guy, but I had a chance to watch the first 2 seasons of this last week and enjoyed the 7 Hells out of it. I'm going to have to go back and read the thread.

Be VERY careful coming in this thread. GoT is a story where the twists are everything, and the spoiler-free nature of this thread only applies to information that hasn't already been shown on TV (i.e., stuff that's in the books).

And enjoy the ride.

I haven't read a single post prior to my first one. I'll probably stay out of here for the most part.

I was just thinking about how The Walking Dead will end in a couple months, and so will Homeland, and I started to think about what Sunday Night Drama will fill that hole...So I looked up the season 3 premier date and it's March 31st, 2013. **** THAT'S TOO FAR FROM NOW.
