i) you are never gonna find Tom Brady performers at the current Tom Brady price
ii) Pats got away with Brady throwing 5 yard passes against a Seattle defense limping around on one leg. iii) how many SB teams the last 15 years have had QB's on their roster that were paid in the top 20% in the league at the position? Maybe 1 or 2?? Brees, Manning, Brady, Rodgers weren't able to do it... |

Are you serious? As an NFL QB you're going to be placed in situations in which you need to win some games on the last drive. Boneheaded early INTs or not, EVERY QB is tested at some point. Smith's been put in that situation more than a handful of times and hasn't delivered one.single.time. You don't think that's an issue? |

If we keep playing games where we don't NEED ass11 to get TDs or NEED him to throw deep or have much pressure on him, we will probably go all the way!

Defense, the running game, and special teams all have to be on point. If that happens, the Chiefs have a chance to succeed with Smith at QB. I know it's not the ideal way to win. It's the "off the beaten path" route to post season success. But it's really a more likely scenario than Smith suddenly playing like a franchise QB. Play defense. Win turnover battles. Kick field goals. And Alex Dilfer does his best Trent Smith impersonation. That's the team the Chiefs have to be this season.

I agree 100% Yes most of us know and knew this!
I just think it's bound to fail at some point...I think it's flawed, to be so transparent. But I can enjoy it for what it is...I would be incredibly happy with a playoff win.

Take this for example. KC vs, let's say Cincinnati on the road in January.. seeing as their are people here saying the Chiefs could take them in a rematch. Start from the opening kickoff, where every Chiefs' possession is mirrored in outcome exactly by the Bengals. The Chiefs punt after six plays, the Bengals go five and out and punt. Santos hits a 43 yard FG, Nugent hits a 45 yarder. West runs in from 14 yards out capping off a nine play drive, Bernard rumbles in from 8 to finish an 11 play drive. Et cetera. It's the epitome of a perfectly matched game. It's ****ing tennis match of a game with neither team leading for longer than two total changes of possession, until the clock winds down to 2:05 in the fourth quarter and Dalton lasers a strike to AJ Green for a 40+ yard TD catch and run, leaving 1:50-something on the game clock and the Chiefs are now down by seven points. What happens then? Probability says the Chiefs' likely don't tie the game with Smith under center, and that's the issue most posters who aren't Smith homers have. Smith's track record on third downs (throwing a comical amount of yards short from the yard to gain marker, namely), in the red zone and under the two minute warning are all glaring problems that have surfaced here and were apparent in San Francisco. But pointing this out is dismissed as bitching because he's not scoring fantasy football points, is trolling or isn't Smith's fault because it's a team game. Until it's not a team game, I.E "He's good in that one stat that matters: wins!" But who am I kidding: if the Chiefs and Bengals were to play in January in game that played out exactly as I've hypothesized above, I'm sure there was a key drop by Albert Wilson at some point that would been the difference between a Colquitt punt and maybe a Santos field goal and that could have changed the whole game. Or something.
