ESPN Audibles talking Chiefs

Right now. Everyone, even Herm is saying that the Chiefs are going to challenge the Broncos for the AFC West this upcoming season. Herm thought we drafted well. At least we're getting some love from ESPN. Haters, it's time to hate.

Still beating that same old drum eh?

Is that all you have to bring to the conversation? Bashing on Geno while still ignoring the entire reason why fans wanted Geno in the first place?

Im not having this conversation with you again simply because you're far too dense to understand how & why people became passionate about a young, talented, developing QB.

The Broncos have tough schedule:

Ravens, @Giants, Eagles, @Cowboys, Jaguars, @Indy, Redskins, @ NE, Titans, @ Texans plus division games.

Road games at Giants, Cowboys, Indy, NE and Texans could all be possible losses. I doubt they lose them all so even if they lose 4 of them and maybe the Ravens at home. That is still only 5 losses. I think we will challenge them, but I think in the end the Broncos still win the division at 11-5 and the Chiefs finish a couple of games back.

Statistically, yes he compares to Cassel. Now, that doesn't mean i think he PLAYS like Cassel. Obviously not, and I doubt you would find a single reputable poster that would say that he plays like Cassel.

But that doesn't make him the answer either.

You see, that's the reason why so many wanted Geno. Sitting a young talented QB behind a game manager like Alex, makes sense. I suppose that's why people are excited about Bray. He has a chance to develop.

But in all of this Me VS You or, Patt's favorite, Alex vs Geno, the objective is lost.

And that objective is to find and develop a true Franchise QB so we can move away from these game manager brand QB's.

...you know....kinda like what SF did when they replaced Alex Smith.

A little humility on your part is in order after being so monumentally wrong about everything for the past 6 months.

My favorite is actually rational CP posters vs unrepentant Geno nuts.

The only thing i was wrong about is him going in the 1st.

The idea and philosophy still stands. I never made ridiculous claims about what Geno Smith will or won't do in the NFL, even though that's what you'd like to believe.

I've stated my reasons for wanting what was widely considered to be the top QB in the draft class, and those reason have not waivered.

And If Alex Smith proves to be what I think he is, mediocre, we'll be right here doing this again, having this same conversation again next season, just like we've been doing for the past 4-5 seasons.

Rinse & repeat until the Chiefs finally take the plunge.

When you have been watching Matt Cassel, Tyler Palko, Brady Quinn, Brodie Croyle and Damon Huard at QB for your team for the last 7 years, any reasonably competent QB can look like the second coming of Joe Montana. Shit, people went nuts for Kyle Orton.

It doesn't mean that he is "the Answer"; just that he is better than terrible.

Those statistics came in two scenarios, first when the whole team was shit, second when he had a stout D and running game to rely on. Cassel's stats came under the scenario that he sucks and CAN'T produce.

Is it possible that AS can't produce even with a solid team around him? Yes. Is it certain or has it been a running theme dogging him? No.

Also, 2011 and the 2012, up to his concussion, strongly suggested that he could produce when called upon.

Herms idea of offense? run LJ up Caseys ass 30 times a game.

Reids idea of offense? chuck it, then keep chucking it.

In yards per play, Chiefs were #27 on offense last year, and #27 on defense. This defense sucked just as bad as the offense. How much was Crennel? That's the big question. Talk of the Chiefs' D being elite is crazy, though...

Do you accept even the possibility of a

smart
accurate
mobile
clutch

game manager?

Or at least the difference between that and 'try not to **** up' game manager.

I'm not looking for a 'mediocre' QB. I'm looking for a guy who's smart and poised and who recognizes when the running game has the hot hand, and when the clock needs run, when the D need a breather. Who doesn't hurt the team with unnecessary gambles. Who doesn't lose poise. Who's capable of the clutch score when needed.

Again, I freely invite people to assemble specific footage establishing that AS can never be that guy.

But

'He's mediocre'
or
'You're going to be bitterly disappointed'

is no argument at all.

Again, Favre and Rodgers are awesome. They also come along once in a generation.

Give me a guy with the attributes I've cited, and put a competent team around him, and I'll watch rapt.
