Court storming in the Big 12 could become a thing of the past with new punishments
http://www.sportingnews.com/ncaa-bas...b-bowlsby-fine
The league passed a measure on Wednesday that gives Bowlsby "broad authority" to implement penalties for teams that fail to keep fans off the court following games. Bob Bowlsby (Getty Images) Some of the new penalties each school could face range from a fine to the loss of future home games. "I don't know that there's anything off the table in dealing with those issues," Bowlsby said at this week's Big 12 meetings. "I think I've been given broad prerogatives to deal with those issues." This is undoubtedly the league's response to Bill Self's rant in February after Kansas State fans rushed the court and were caught on video intentionally bumping into Kansas players. Forward Jamari Traylor was body-checked by a fan and Self was pushed into the scorer's table as fans flooded onto the court. "I wasn't nervous for me," Self said after the game. "There were several students that hit our players...This (lack of security) has got to stop." Bowlsby said that the Big 12 has "pretty good video evidence of all of (the conference's) big events," so schools need to take the extra step to make fans aware of the potentially serious penalties their school could be assessed. According to league rules, it's the responsibility of the home team — not the league — to provide adequate security measures to protect players and team personnel in the event of a court storm. I agree. I think the ku fans (or, hicks, as you say) should just stay home. Why risk getting an injury, you know?

The pearl-clutching from you (and the fans like you) when a team does it after beating your team, is comedic gold. Rather than deal with the loss and take it in stride, you (and the fans like you) shift your focus and energy into scolding the opposing program, for doing something your program is - again - equally as guilty of doing. The irony of the condescension is what keeps the cycle going, IMHO. I honestly don't think we would run onto the floor the last couple times if we didn't know how much it bothered you (and the fans like you).

Titus, by his own admission, is a ku mbb fan. Like most of their fan base, they only recognize one sport.

This is correct...I have never followed KU's football team. I realize this is considered heresy among some, and I frankly do not care. As for a mea culpa, I didnt care anything about college football until in my late college years and became an OSU fan. OMG?! Yes! an OSU Fan. It's fun to be a buckeye fan today, not so much in the 90's. BTW, my oldest boy is now a junior at OSU, so I now have a family connection.

I think it's stupid for KU to rush the court for any reason. They are a top tier program and should act like it at all times.

I really don't see the problem with the fans running onto the field to celebrate, other than it making them look second-class. Tearing down the goalposts is a pretty dangerous situation, probably shouldn't be permitted, but I don't know how you stop one and not the other.

I know how you feel... This team last year was the worse team in Coach Self tenure at KU....
