If there's no scheme to mask deficiencies, then talent wins out. If there's no scheming then it's talent vs talent. If you're getting your ass handed to you, what does that say about your talent level? Pretty simple really.
Extend that to the regular season. Consider the talking point around CP that we aren't doomed to a playoff one-and-done because the defense isn't really that bad. The defense just looks bad right now because we've played two really good quarterbacks so far. So the narrative goes that when we start playing garbage teams they'll look much better.

Well... who do you expect to see in the postseason?

Whatever team comes to beat us at Arrowhead in the first round... sorry, Chiefs fan PTSD talking -

Whoever comes calling in January, it's probably not going to be the Bills or Brian Hoyer again. They're going to be playing great QBs when it matters.

Highly unlikely since we've seen the offense do it too, which means it's likely a mandate from Reid and not something that Sutton is doing all on his own.

Jim Johnson never made it a habit to go prevent like Sutton does. He was content to just dominate from start to finish.

I didn't really follow Reid with the Eagles, so cannot comment one way or another. I can only tell you what I've seen the last 5 years, which is a dominant defense that was one of the best in the league when it had good players.

I remember the Pittsburgh game when we were up, the announcers talked about the players lobbying Reid to stay aggressive once we were up.

That tells me the players understand how Reid calls the game with a lead and they don’t like it.

Agree with all of this - but at least this go 'round we have what appears to be a QB that can handle the playoffs and make legitimate star-QB throws (and not miss open receivers streaking down the sideline or seam).

Sounds like people who were saying that Reid tells Alex Smith to check down

I cant believe you can watch these games and support the defensive scheme, play calling or adjustments.

I firmly believe that Sutton makes thia average squad worse.

When we were getting tons of turnovers Sutton does a decent job. If his teams cant rely on that, he cant adjust his scheme to get the best out of what he has.

Sounds like Smith again who is pretty good with an all world cast

Agree with beach tribe. The Sutton lovers are the same ones that defended Smiff until the end. I love to hear dominant defense tagged with Sutton who has choked away 2 of the biggest leads in playoff history.....

I say leave them both shut down for this week, let then both heal up.

We should be about to beat the 9ers anyway.

Well, your belief is wrong.

Without Berry and Sorenson, this defense is far below 'average', talent-wise.

We have Chris Jones and Anthony Hitchens on out front 7.

We have Fuller in the secondary.

That's 3 bona fide NFL starters in our front 7.

The fact that Sutton gets as much as he does out of this group of bums, broke dicks, and undated FAs that would MAYBE make it to be on Jacksonville's practice squad is a testament to the man's ability to field a fundamentally sound defense.

Yeah, because God forbid that the offense move the ball or even get a 1st down in the 2nd half of EITHER of those games.

We held Pittsburgh to ZERO TOUCHDOWNS.

And LOST..

I guess Bob Sutton was the QB who missed a WIDE OPEN Tyreek Hill on the post in the 4th qtr vs Pittsburgh?

Oh, wait, that was Alice Smith who did that...

That was probably the play that got PMII drafted.

These are the same people who think that Eric Berry is magically going to instantly return to his old form when/if he returns after being out of game action for 12 months and counting.

You can be an effective safety without elite athletic talent. It's how Rod Woodson was a pro bowl safety when he got old...Reed played forever..

He may not be what he use to be but he can still be a fine player.

You Sutton critics are the same. You think a new defensive coordinator is going to come here and magically make Pro Bowlers out of a bunch of average defensive players and turn this defense into a top-5 D right away...

It's not going to happen. We don't have the talent to be a great D or even good D average is probably realistically the best we can hope for. I'm not saying Sutton is the greatest but he is not being put in a position to succeed with the talent he has this season.
