Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

I had only been there for 10 minutes so I was a little nervous I would see a better deal later on, but I didn't. I think I got the best SKS at the show that day. I know they used to be cheaper but $400 for one that is in decent shape seems to be the going rate.

Shot it a couple weeks ago, very fun to shoot, of course the scope wasn't anywhere near accurate, and the bayonet screw fell out, which we couldn't find. I got home and took the scope off, but the takedown latch had been replaced with just a bolt.

I found the website buymilsurp.com, it had a bayonet screw, with nut and washer this time, and a new takedown lever for about $16 including shipping. If anyone needs odds and ends for SKS's, and I'm sure AK's and probably a lot of other rifles, that is a good place to go.

Now I need some more ammo, but I'm not even going to bother going all the way up to the gun show tomorrow, don't want to drive that far, fight the crowd, and pay $10 to be disappointed with no ammo.

Toss the scope & go get yourself a Tech Sight.

They make these for the AK,10/22 ect as well .

I bought my norinco sks in 2011 for $280, came with folding synthetic stock and wood. The thing shoots like a dream, love it.

I still need to put all of my parts on the Norinko SKS I got off a buddy back in November.

Think i paid $200 for it.

Just wish I would have bought more than the 20 rd Pro Mag for it when I was ordering up parts back then.

I just can't see mounting anything to the dust cover of an AK, it's just too damn flimsy in my mind

I have know idea how they work on an ak. But an SKS they will shrink your groups by half if not more. Plus you dont need to move the front sight pin left to right in order to get zeroed.

It's comcical how ignorant the gun control idiots are. Take the non scary rifle and show it to them...then move the bolt/barrel into the new stock with a d
Scary magazine and ask them which is an assault weapon, they'd pick the second one guaranteed lol

I've said that about the Mini-14 many times. Sadly, they've caught on and added it to their ban list.

I wasn't sold on the idea of mounting to the "dust cover" on an AK either. On my AK I installed an Ultimak rail, which will replace your gas tube and mount directly to the barrel. On that rail I mounted a primary arms mini red dot. It co-witnesses with irons, is solid, and still allows full function of everything. Might be worth looking into. I've been pretty happy with it.

One of the sites I use for ammo had 7.62 x 39 available with an estimated shipping date of February 15, so I went ahead and ordered 600 rounds.

Their best date on .223 (at least .223 I'd run through my rifle) was July.

Reload.

Accuracy and price are waaaaay better. It's very addictive, though.

I know, and we're setting up for that. But my buddy who's shouldering the lion's share of the cost wants to focus on pistol ammo first, so it will be a few months down the road. That's the main reason I didn't bother ordering any .223.

My mistake, I thought you were already rolling.

I am still learning the tricks of the trade from my dad. I will try to throw you any advice I can. It's easy to reload at his place when I am surrounded by the best equipment available.

The one thing that my dad repeats is "Buy the best carbide equipment that you can" or it will wear out quickly.

We probably deal with a little more volume than a normal person does, though.
