***OFFICIAL "Ways the left has become unhinged since the election" thread****

I've read a lot of posts about the traumatization of some on the left as it pertains to the recent election. It occurred to me that we might want to have an "official" thread for all of these stories.

This thread might totally crash and burn, but we'll give it a go......

I'll start with this one. I am not making light of the trauma that any of these ladies has experienced, but apparently Trump's victory is an anti-healer.

Post-Election, Survivors Of Assault Are Struggling To Have Sex Again
Trump’s win is re-traumatizing women who thought they’d healed.

After the now infamous recording of President-elect Donald Trump bragging about grabbing women by the pussy came out, Anna*, 33, went to her Facebook page to share her story. In high school, she had been raped by her boyfriend, and in that moment, she wanted people to know.

“I didn’t say anyone’s name, I just said I had been raped and I was a domestic violence and sexual assault survivor, and why it bothered me so much what Trump had said,” Anna told The Huffington Post. “I said, this is not just locker room talk. This happens to people, and this happened to me.”

After posting, Anna felt great. She heard from several women who shared their own stories and she helped connect them to resources. But then her ex-boyfriend reached out, saying he was going to sue her ― at the the same moment Trump was threatening to sue his accusers. It was an unsettling parallel Anna could not quite wrap her head around, and she was anxious for the election to be over.

“I kept wanting to think that Trump wouldn’t get elected and our nation would say this kind of thing isn’t OK,” Anna said. Since Trump’s win, she has been in a tailspin. For a week-and-a-half, she couldn’t sleep. She still hasn’t really been able to be intimate with her husband.

“Since Trump’s comment, we’ve only had sex a couple of times,” she said, adding that she was going to meet with her doctor to talk about options. “I don’t want to feel this way.”

The 2016 presidential campaign was difficult for many women, especially those who felt triggered by Trump’s so-called “locker room talk,” and a string of allegations that he’d groped and kissed women without their consent. But Trump’s win, they say, is even more difficult ― not just a reminder of everything they’ve been through, but a minimizing of it. And it has left their sex lives in shambles.

“It resurfaced a lot of past trauma that I had experienced about seven years ago when I was sexually assaulted,” Ali, 28, told The Huffington Post. “I had gotten to a point where I had taken my own power back from my rapist, and this felt like the American people telling me, ‘No, no. He still has more power over you.’”

Prior to Trump’s win, Ali had sex with her husband every other day. Now, they’ve been having sex maybe once a week ― not nothing, but not the same. When they do have sex, Ali feels far less enthusiastic.

“I’m just not as comfortable letting myself be sexual right now,” she said.

It is hardly a surprising reaction, says Wendy Maltz, a sex therapist and author of The Sexual Healing Journey: A Guide For Survivors Of Sexual Abuse.

“Here, we have a really unprecedented situation where a person who has been identified as a sexual perpetrator by many women has been elevated to the highest position in the country,” she said. “For many [people] who’ve been sexually abused, it’s a huge shock.”

Trump’s broader triggering effect has been well-documented. Soon after Trump’s “grab them by the pussy” tape came out, RAINN ― the sexual assault survivor nonprofit that runs the National Sexual Assault Hotline ― saw call traffic increase by 33 percent. At one point during the campaign, 3,000 therapists signed a “manifesto” detailing the psychological toll they believed Trump was taking on their patients, everything from anxiety and fear to shame, Politico reports. One therapist who works with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault told Slate she’d seen an uptick in patients calling for emergency counseling sessions, and experiencing flashbacks and an inability to go outside.

But it’s not just Trump’s behavior, Maltz said. It’s the feeling that many Americans simply didn’t care enough about their experiences to vote against a sexual aggressor that has made it so challenging for women to be intimate again, even with trusted partners. And Maltz points to research that has found that “institutional betrayal” ― the kind that happens when a student reports an assault and his or her university fails to provide backup ― can exacerbate trauma, leading to further anxiety, depression and sexual problems.

“Those results suggest that institutions ― or in this situation, the election ― has the power to cause additional harm to assault survivors in the form of sexual effects,” she said. Women can feel re-traumatized, Maltz added. They can project their feelings onto someone else, such as a partner or even Trump himself.

That’s exactly what is happening to Jamie*, 31, who was date raped when she was 16.

“When I look at Donald Trump, I have this visceral reaction where I look at him as someone who actually sexually assaulted me,” she said. “It has put me into this hole, where I don’t feel like I want to be intimate with my live-in boyfriend of four years.” They have not had sex since the election, and she has no sexual appetite right now.

Jamie understands, of course, that Trump did not actually assault her ― but she can’t shake the feeling that she has been violated in some way.

“I’ve never experienced looking at a stranger and having that kind of reaction,” she said. Jamie is hopeful she and her boyfriend will resume their sex life soon, but the thought of seeing Trump’s face every day for four years worries her.

“I just feel like, ugh. Dirty. Muddy,” Jamie said. “I feel like I was victimized.”

Something tells me these two thugs didn't vote for Donny Boy.

Hopefully they "resist arrest" and get their asses kicked before the cops drag what's left of them off to jail.

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley took to Twitter Sunday to claim that she and her son were heckled as they left a New York City restaurant while the city's annual Gay Pride Parade was taking place.

It was not immediately clear where Haley was dining or what was said to her and her son.

Haley has been one of the most outspoken members of the Trump administration in her role as ambassador to the U.N., but some of her statements while governor of South Carolina have drawn the ire of the LGBT community.

In November 2013, Haley opposed a federal lawsuit challening an amendment in South Carolina's constitution that banned same-sex marriage.

"The citizens of South Carolina spoke ... spoke something that I, too, believe, which is marriage should between a man and a woman," Haley said at the time. "I’m going to stand by the people of this state, stand by the constitution, I’m going to support it and fight for it every step of the way."

However, Haley appeared to alter her stance last year, when she delivered the Republican response to former President Barack Obama's final State of the Union address. Haley, who endorsed Florida Sen. Marco Rubio in the Republican primaries, promised that a Republican president would "respect differences in modern families, but we would also insist on respect for religious liberty as a cornerstone of our democracy."

Gay pride parades across the country this weekend took on political overtones, an apparent reaction to the Trump administration.

Activists have been galled by the Trump administration's rollback of federal guidance advising school districts to let transgender students use the bathrooms and locker rooms of their choice. The Republican president also broke from Democratic predecessor Barack Obama's practice of issuing a proclamation in honor of Pride Month.

At the jam-packed New York City parade, a few attendees wore "Make America Gay Again" hats, while one group walking silently in the parade wore "Black Lives Matter" shirts as they held up signs with a fist and with a rainbow background, a symbol for gay pride. Still others protested potential cuts to heath care benefits, declaring that "Healthcare is an LGBT issue."

This Article focuses on a particular kind of objection to Title IX, which I call due process demands. They may take many forms, but the central idea is that students who are accused of misconduct, like sexual harassment or assault, are denied due process in campus adjudications—that such adjudications are unfair to the accused. This has become a criticism of Title IX, rather than universities themselves, largely because of the Dear Colleague Letter (DCL), which clarified some of the ways that universities must conduct these adjudications. This, in turn, is taken to be either a devastating objection to compliance with the DCL and/or an imperative on universities to provide more process for the accused, whether within the bounds of the DCL or not. I argue that such demands function as political rhetoric, specifically as a sort of propaganda, drawing on a recent taxonomy of propaganda...

Training School For ‘Resistance’ Activists Expands To West Coast

Lectures at Harvard and Berkeley aim to help progressives fight the Trump administration.

The Harvard-based “Resistance School” is expanding to a second, West Coast campus at the University of California, Berkeley.

Graduate students at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government opened the “Resistance School,” which offers a series of free lectures available online, in March to help give progressive activists the tools they need to combat President Donald Trump’s policy agenda.

Some six months and 175,000 participants later, the Resistance School’s courses resume again this Thursday on Berkeley’s campus. Berkeley and Harvard will alternate hosting duties for eight weekly lectures ― double the number offered in the first semester.

The Berkeley lectures are pre-taped with an in-person audience and will appear online at 6 p.m. EST on the alternating Thursdays when it formally hosts the lectures.

“As students at Berkeley, we have access to some amazing experts and we want to make those opportunities available to a wider audience,” said Kori Anderson, a co-founder of the “Resistance School @ Berkeley,” as the Berkeley branch calls itself. “We’re rooted in this area that has kind of been the center of a lot of progressive movements throughout history and continues to have this very vibrant organizing and activism community.”

Policy experts and veteran activists will lead the courses. Participants are then welcome to take advantage of follow-up readings aimed at helping them apply lessons from the lectures and discuss strategy on a specified Slack channel.

Berkeley’s courses are slated to focus on “effective communication,” while Harvard’s courses will address the idea of “leadership.”

Here’s a listing of themes and speakers that will be covered in the Berkeley series:

Thursday, Oct. 5, “Transforming Resistance into a Social Movement”: Saru Jayaraman, co-founder and co-director of the Restaurant Opportunities Centers United (ROC United) and director of the Food Labor Research Center at University of California, Berkeley

Thursday, Oct. 19, “Cross-Cutting Messaging in a Tough Political Environment”: Robert Reich, former secretary of labor and professor of public policy at the University of California, Berkeley

Thursday, Nov. 2, “Shifting Public Opinion Through Smart Messaging and Metaphors”: Anat Shenker-Osorio, principal, ASO Communications

Thursday Nov. 16, “Communicating Race in Politics and Organizing”: Ian Haney López, professor of public law at the University of California, Berkeley

The videos of the lectures will be available at ResistanceSchool.org, the separate website for the Resistance School @ Berkeley.

Harvard has not yet announced its lineup of lecturers for the second semester. The first semester of courses, available at ResistanceSchool.com, featured presentations from Harvard historian and human rights specialist Timothy McCarthy; Sarah El-Amine, the former executive director of Organizing for Action; Harvard public policy expert Marshall Ganz; and New York state Assemblyman and Democratic National Committee vice chair Michael Blake.

Although graduate students at Berkeley and Harvard created the Resistance School, the program is not formally affiliated with either institution. In their capacities as student groups, however, the two branches of the Resistance School receive some funding from the universities. The websites of both branches offer people the opportunity to support their work with donations.

The Resistance School is one of many new groups founded to channel the progressive passion inspired by opposition to President Trump’s policies. Some of the most prominent new organizations include Indivisible, Flippable and SwingLeft, which each mobilize people around a different form of Democratic activism.

MSNBC’s Kumar on Trump Immigration Policy: We’re at the ‘Beginning’ of a ‘Sort of Ethnic Cleansing’

MSNBC contributor and Voto Latino CEO Maria Teresa Kumar said Saturday on “AM Joy” that President Donald Trump’s immigration policy was the “beginning” of an “ethnic cleansing” because the American government is “basically” saying who can be American and who cannot.

“When we go after the most vulnerable … that means everybody else is off the table,” Kumar stated. “Most recently, children that are receiving government benefits who are U.S. Americans and citizens, if their parents are legal residents — even though they are not receiving government assistance they are trying to question whether or not they can ever become citizens.”

She continued, “This is a strategy, a sort of ethnic cleansing and we are in the beginning of it and it’s important that people are marching that Americans are present because if we do not stand up for this government, we are basically giving them a carte blanche on identifying who can be American.”

She continued, “This is a strategy, a sort of ethnic cleansing and we are in the beginning of it and it’s important that people are marching that Americans are present because if we do not stand up for this government, we are basically giving them a carte blanche on identifying who can be American.”

This kinda hyperbole is so self defeating. I have no idea why they don't understand that.

This is the left's biggest problem. They have a bad actor problem controlling the public discourse on these topics.

I assure you this woman KNOWS what she said is nonsense.
