While this obviously doesn't justify the beatdown she got, it changes things. I assume (or at least hope) that most of you don't know how hard it is to get somebody out of your home once they've been invited in. I went through it with a roommate who invited his skank girlfriend to move in with him, which meant moving in with me. Once somebody establishes domicile, it basically takes an act of God to get rid of them, whether they have a right to be there or not, leases or property ownership be damned. That should NOT be the case.

Yup.

Shady made a mistake by letting the gold digger move in the first place.

This appears to be a good summation.

It's somewhat state specific. Massachusetts is SO tenant-friendly it's completely ridiculous. I know some other states are less so.

It appears that the State of McCoy is unfriendly to squatters.

I assumed a simple call to the cops would be enough to get someone gone.

My co-worker owns several properties and it took 2 years and about $40K in legal fees to get the guy removed.

I don't know about other states, but in California it's incredibly difficult if the tenant knows what he's doing.

In my co-worker's case, the tenant was a professional squatter, and his lawyer had done this song and dance before with a prior home. The guy has such a reputation as a scam artist that you could google his name.

He pissed someone off so badly that they created web page just for him.

So yes, with enough money, enough intelligence and a good lawyer, it's really ****ing hard to convict someone. Assisting my co-worker with this hassle really opened my eyes. Until then i always assumed that you served some papers and that was the end of it. And maybe that does apply to the poor who can't afford to fight it in court, but if you know how to game the system you can go years without paying rent and still not get evicted.

That's nuts.

So don't pay rent, you can just still stay there? How the **** is this legal?
