To Amazon Prime or NOT to Amazon Prime

Sorry if Q, but I'm on the fence about doing the whole Amazon Prime thing. Seems like getting rid of Netflix all but pays for it, but wanted to ask the opinions of others in this Mecca of awesome knowledge called Chiefs Planet..

Is Amazon Prime really worth it over eBay when you buy, let's say, 5-7 items a month? I ask because I always do the "price+shipping" deal, so it seem like it's a wash at some level. That being said, "Prime" would ALWAYS mean two-day shipping, and that's something I hardly ever do on eBay, so it could be a deal that makes it worth it enough to buy 15-20 things a month. The whole "eliminating some of the instant gratification culture/concern" deal...

Oh, and I've heard that if you use an "edu" account it's free for six months (perhaps not a big deal over a lifetime!!), but is then like half the cost. Does anybody know if that's true? If so, and it' the son who has the "edu" account, how does "Dad" pull off that scam without having the kid able to buy pretty-much anything he's ever wanted?

Thanks in advance... Just looking for some opinions before I leap...

What time did you order it?

After 4pm eastern and it won't likely ever ship same day.

And it's business days, so you can't count Sundays.

11:15am "central" Sunday the 17th, but I didn't get the "it shipped" until Monday the 18th (but that was 2:28am [central], so it's almost like it was still the 17th).

That's why I was asking, if it "shipped" Monday the 18th at 2:28am and Monday's a business day, is the "two day" NLT the end of to full business days Tuesday the 19th NLT 4:00pm??

I'm not trying to be really nit-picky, but if he doesn't get it until this afternoon, that's more than two days. It's better than a week, but it is what it is...

OK, that's nit-picky....

Yeah, if you order on Sunday it will usually arrive on Wednesday but it depends a lot on where it shipped from and who the carrier is.

I can tell you this, if we get stuff UPS, sometimes it will arrive Tuesday rather than Wednesday. If it ships FedEx, it will ALWAYS arrive on Wednesday.

Cool. And going to a college/college dorm, in a not so large town (Rolla) isn't making thing click quite as quickly. What I tell from the tracking is that it is UPS, it left Nashville on the 18th, Got to Earth City, MO the 19th, and is "out for delivery" in Rolla now. LOL, I'm not sure how it got from Earth City, MO (St. Louis) to Rolla, but I guess that's not really important.

And I'll say this, so far the package tracking in eBay seems a bit superior, but nothing worth crying over either.

And the $64K question is....how long before the son checks the mail if I don't remind him??? LOL!

And back to one other question I had for the Amazon GURUs.... If I don't want to share the keys to my Amazon kingdom with others, is there a way to get them setup on Instant Movie without giving them said keys to the kingdom?

No. You can share the prime shipping but not prime video.

Actually, you can allow people access to your Prime Video without allowing them to make purchases but it depends on the individual device and there's a limit to how many you can share with.

On some of our devices, we can disable purchases from within the viewer app itself and secure it with a PIN. That way our kids can use Prime Video whenever they want but we don't have to worry about unauthorized or accidental charges.

However, a couple of our devices don't support that so YMMV.

They must have added this since the last time I looked into it.

As far as i can tell, it's completely device dependent.

I'll search YouTube for that gem.. LOL, we only have on iPhone user, and that person is the one I'd like to get Prime Video working for yet not have access to the world...

And I can't wait for Amazon to finish their Prime Video App!!!! Such a silly corporate decision!

I agree, it's a hell of an idea.

When purchasing a complete set of golf clubs for ~$390, eBay turned out to be $22 dollars cheaper for the same exact set of clubs... Pennies?

But your point is not lost...

My point may have actually been lost.

In today's stock market, when you use online trading sights, when you click the button to order some stock, other firms have worked it so that they can see what you're trying to order, and they run ahead of you and buy the stock you're trying to buy and sell it to you for a little bit more than what you thought you were ordering it for.

They make a profit without ever taking risk, because at the end of each day they don't own any holdings.

It's called front-running, and it makes billions for some companies, just a bit at a time.

I'm totally with you on saving money by shopping around, and not just pennies.

It just struck me as funny what could happen if the ways of the stock market would be applied to physical goods.
