Anybody here ever actually run the 40?

Curious to see if we have any other athletes out here.

I don't have a stopwatch. Maybe I should see if one of my friends does and get some jackass to time me.

What's your 40 time?

Even with all of that, I had no explosion. No speed. I'd still get winded carrying groceries and whatnot up 30 stairs from my car to our kitchen, couldn't maintain a super fast pace, even when biking at the beach or Lake Hollywood, and so on.

I think it's the nature of the human body. You can eat right, take care of yourself, exercise, etc. but it doesn't matter if you're a normal guy or even a world class athlete, age hits us all really hard, no matter how hard we try to avoid it.

We just don't have the capability to heal like we did in our teens and early 20's and you're exactly right: It goes down hill quickly.

I think that's where I've noticed it most - burst. Granted, I'm also not in great shape anymore, but I ran when I had time and I was in good enough shape to play 60 softball games last year. I'm in pretty decent shape for being 31.

But that first step is gone and brotha it ain't coming back. My feet just feel heavy. Sucks. So now I think I'm just going to work on strength training to see if I can start hitting with more authority to make up for the fact that every scrub-ass 20 yr old has better range into the hole than I do anymore.

Hootie's point is valid. Unless you got timed electonically by an UNBIASED source, those times aren't close to being accurate. Sure you got timed 4.4, but you sure didn't run a "true" 4.4.

Just like the kids that claimed to throw high 80's and a scout would come in and they'd top out at 81 with a true reading.

And as I stated, electronic timing wasn't available when I was in high school but if you're running a consistent time, that's your time.

Baseball was an afterthought at my high school and as far s I can remember, no one received a college shcholarship on any level during my three year tenure. Same with basketball.

But tons of guys got football scholarships, so the numbers had to be "right", otherwise, those guys would have been rejected in scores, which did not happen.

My cousin played baseball at Johnson county last year and he runs a 4.29. He's the fastest person I've ever seen in real life. Last year in 59 games he had 65 steals in 73 attempts. He transferred to Lipscomb university in Tennessee. He's had scouts from 14 teams come visit him.

What's your 40 time?
Anybody that says they can run a sub 4.6 is most likely full of shit. Nobody really even understands how fast a 4.7 even is. Its fast. If you THINK you can run a 4.7, trust me, you can't.

The fastest guy on the football team in HS ran a 4.52. He played for the Browns.

Where did you play D1 football? Being that big and that fast automatically makes you a D1 football recruit.

There's a lot of funny in this thread. Of course there is some truth to what Hootie and now BWillie are saying, but most high schools don't have access to electronic timing equipment so if you consistently run a certain time, that is the time you tell. We understand there's an element of human error.

With that said, I ran a 4.87 when I was a sophomore in high school. I was probably about 5'4", maybe 110 pounds at that point and a total scrub. I was, like, 5th string RB although I did work my way up to starting KR duties

That was the last year I played football so I never ran it again but was always curious what I would have timed after I finished puberty.
